Berwick Food & Beer Festival 2016
Back in 2014 I blogged about our local Food & Beer festival, however last year I was way too sick to take photos. This year though I made a concious effort, even just to have a note of it on the blog. Berwick’s Food & Beer Festival is possibly our families favourite local event of the year so by last Saturday we were hyped. Sadly the forecast wasn’t the best but armed with umbrellas and raincoats we headed over for an afternoon of good food and drink.
One of my favourite things about the festival is the number of food stalls there are. I always try and save some money so I can treat myself to local produce. The area I come from always has some great products available and i’m sure the turn out gets better every year. Usually I always go for the same things, but this year I wanted to try and be more selective and original with my purchases. I will admit to walking around every stall a good few times and trying everything they had on offer, even some chilli mayo that nearly blew my face off! The great thing us my parents and my sister also enjoy this so we can take turns and there is always someone to entertain the kids. Although there is plenty for them to do including live animals, music and not to mention food to be eaten!
It’s not just food, there are plenty of other thing on offer such as woven baskets, gloves knitted from Alpaca wool (I bought Little Miss these at our first Food & Beer festival, they were so soft!) Little Miss is such an animal person her favourite thing to do is visit the animals. She talks away to them and could spend all afternoon going between the pens to see them. She wants to know their names and what they are as sometimes there are animals she’s not 100% familiar with such as Llamas or even goats. It’s a great way to keep them occupied especially while you’re waiting on your lunch to be cooked right in front of you.
For lunch this year we went for Bratwursts for my dad, sister and nephew, and pizzas cooked in a stone oven on site for my mum, Little Miss and I. Everything was delicious and nicely washed down with a couple of pints of strawberry cider (for the adults only of course!) Last year I had a mozzarella, rocket and sweet chilli crepe which was so good I was tempted by it again this year but since I was so adamant to try something different I was glad I went for the pizza. For dessert we had mini cheesecake! It was 5 for £10 so I had Nutella, my sister had Galaxy ripple, my mum Ferreo Rocher, my dad raspberry and white chocolate and the last one we shared which was Reeses. They were all so fresh, probably the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had!
Of course I bought (and was bought by my dad) some new things to try. The strawberry wine I sampled and it’s truly delicious, so much so I brought the bottle with me to Bee‘s this weekend. Some chocolate, cheese and a bottle of whiskey butterscotch sauce I cannot wait to use on boozy pancakes the next time my boyfriend comes up, maybe i’ll finally coax him into having dessert!
