3 Ways to Make A Virtual Relationship Work*
It’s no secret that dating and relationships have changed a lot over the last few months. If you don’t happen to live with your beau, you’ll be trying to find a “new norm” to ensure your relationship doesn’t suffer while you’re apart. It’s not going to be easy and I’ve unfortunately seen a few memes about break ups due to social distancing but let’s face it, if keeping apart means keeping safe, it’s all going to be worth it!
Today I’m sharing 5 ways to make a virtual relationship work while we’re all on lock down, hopefully this will help people who are struggling with the idea that “we’re all in this together” when really we couldn’t be further apart.
Take Care Of Yourself First
I know this may seem like common sense but for a lot of people (myself included) when they’re worrying about their relationship going down the pan, they forget to look after themselves. When you’re not practicing self care you end up argumentative or withdrawn which can make the whole situation worse. Allow yourself to have your feelings but talk them through with your partner. Do something mindful that stops you obsessing over a situation you cannot fix. Exercise get those happy hormones flowing. If you feel better in yourself it’ll be better for your relationship.
Make a Plan
If you aren’t in a relationship yet, plan on how you could possibly meet someone new during lockdown. Look at local dating websites like The Aberdeen Dating Site for Scottish dates or The Derbyshire Dating Site if you’re in the midlands. Heck, you could even look at making a new connection now, talking online is something you can do while social distancing.
If you’re already in a relationship and you’re virtual dating for the foreseeable future why not make a list of all the things you want to do when you can be together again? It can be anything from the little things such as going to the cinema or having a sleep over, right through the bigger things like holidays. It gives you something to focus on and an idea of what your future will look like. Some people need that security and the planning can be fun!
Be Deliberate About Time Spent Together
To me, feeling like a priority is important when i’m in a relationship. As soon as I feel like an afterthought I start to worry. It can so easy to just decide that a text every now and then is enough while you’re stuck at home, but for a lot of people, it’s not enough. So be deliberate about the time you’re spending with each other. Why not try one of these virtual date ideas? Social distancing doesn’t mean you can’t spend time together just because you’re not physically with one another, you can still talk and even see each other with video calls. Make sure you pencil one on one time in most, if not every day.
Whether you’re in a new relationship, looking for a relationship or a few years down the line, this time is hard for us all so let your loved ones know you’re there.
