5 Car Maintenance Tips You Must Take Heed Of*

Being safe on the road is not just taking note of how safely you’re driving, but also making sure you’re car is safe to drive. In the UK every year your car is required to go in for it’s MOT, which is basically ensuring your car is fit to be driven, kind of like an annual check up at the doctors. If you don’t look after your car, there is a chance you’ll come away from your MOT with a huge bill of work that needs done before you will receive a certificate stating your car is safe for the roads. However, if you keep up on your car maintenance and regularly have it checked you could avoid the expense when everything starts going wrong at the same time.
Today I’m sharing 5 car maintenance tips to take heed of, not only will it ensure your car is safe all year around, but it could save you a lot of money in the long run.
Get the Brakes Checked
Lets face it, if you are driving the car the one thing you want to have working is your brakes but so many people only have their brakes checked once a year during the car service before their MOT. Some people don’t even do that. Let face it, having working brakes could be something that keeps you alive, why wouldn’t you have them checked more regularly? Assure your family’s safety & get your car’s brakes checked regularly from Iverson Tyres London Branch.
Check Your Oil
There are so many people who don’t check there oil, when it’s actually one of the easiest car maintenance points as all you need is a dipstick. You should do this weekly, but if you don’t you must check before going on a long journey and top up if required. If you feel you’re topping up more than you should be, take your car to the garage. You should have your oil changed at least every 5000 miles, you can do this yourself or take it to the garage.
Have the Correct Tyres On Your Car
As a kid I always thought there was one type of tires. As long as your car had tyres, it was okay. But living somewhere that often deals with heavy snow fall and ice, I have learned over there years there are different types of tyres. And I’ve made sure I educate myself on tyre care using this handy e-book. Every winter my dad changes the tyres on his cars to ensure they have a better grip in icy conditions. This is so important and could stop you skidding off the road. If you often have cold winters it’s a wise investment to make and you can check out what tyres you’ll be needing.
Listen for Strange Noises (and get them checked out)
If there is one thing I’ve learned from my dad about cars (he is a long distance lorry driver who delivers fancy cars, so he knows his stuff) it’s that you need to know your car. You need to know what sounds are normal, how it feels to drive and recognise if there is a problem. When i’m a passenger with my dad he often hears sounds that I don’t, because he knows what’s normal for his car and what isn’t. If you think your car is making an unusual noise take it to the garage. It’s not worth risking an exhaust almost falling off (it happened to my sister!)
Ensure All Your Lights Work
Okay, we’ll step back from the “you need to get this done or you will crash” points to something that’s serious in a different sense. Did you know the police can pull you over if your car lights aren’t all working? I’ve been in a car when it has happened. If you have only one light out (they can fail at any time) you may just get a verbal caution, but if you have more than one the penalty can be harsher as the officer could see it as negligence! Keep an eye on them, and if one goes ensure you get it replaced straight away.
Once you’re car has finished it’s life, you’ll be able to sell it on even if it’s in less than perfect condition thanks to Damaged Cars.
It’s no wonder that some people refer to their car as their baby. They need a lot of a love and care to keep them fit for the road, but what would we do without them to get us from a to b?
