How Can You Increase Your Households Value?*

I had a discussion with my sister the other day about house renovation. These days there seem to be three types of people, the materialistic who need all the best clothes, biggest car and most toys for their kids, the traveller, these people spend all their money on holidays an adventures and finally the house renovator. Most people don’t have the money to be all three, and although a lot dabble in each of the areas every now and then, ultimately their heart will lie with one. For me, it’s travelling, for my sister, it’s house renovating and decorating. And that’s the area i’m going to talk about today.

Decorating and redesigning your house is pricey. Yes, the odd throw cushion to brighten up your sofa isn’t bad, but if you really want to overhaul your house and add value to it, it’s a long a pricey process and not something you should begin without putting some serious thought into it. Yes, you may want to add value to your house so you can sell it eventually, or maybe you just want to make your home feel more like yours by putting your mark on it, either way you need to look at how much it will cost and weigh it up against what you’ll get in return. Maybe you need more space? Or something big needs replacing like the whole bathroom suite. Are you going to go all out or do it on a budget? Do you need planning permission, like if you’re adding a conservatory or an extra room, or can you just plough ahead? Can you do it yourself or do you need to hire a professional?

Balustrade Components have put together a handy infographic that can help you look at the costs and work that goes into increasing your households value with renovations;
