Add a Conservatory
Maybe it’s a living space issue and you need some more room down the stairs. The kids are too noisy while the sport is on? Your teens want somewhere to hang with their friends that is close to the kitchen. A conservatory is perfect for this especially if you have a big garden and you’re not a gardener, who needs all that outside space when you could convert it to inside space? Conservatories are perfect for many reasons, you could use it as a dining room, a second sitting room, an office, a play room and it’s probably one of the cheaper ways to add more space. Look into getting a company like Trade Conservatories to price and ensure you get planning permission before you start as I’ve heard horror stories of people not getting permission then having to tear it down!

Do an Attic Conversion
One of the most popular ways to add an extra room or two is to do an attic conversion. A lot of houses built in the 20th Century have a large attic space that’s perfect for turning into another room. You may have to lose some space on your second floor as you need to build a staircase but if you have a big enough roof cavity not only could you get another bedroom up there but a lot of people also put an en-suite and turn the attic bedroom into the master bedroom. You need to get permission for an attic room to be officially classed as a bedroom if you want your house to be classed as having an extra bedroom, otherwise it will simply be listed as a “2 bedroom with attic conversion” and doesn’t add that much extra value to the house itself.

Build an Extension
The most expensive way to add more space to your house is add an extension, but it’s the best way to add space to both upstairs and downstairs. If you have the space on your property it can add a lot of value to your house should you ever decide to move. At the end of my street a family have added a two floor extension to the side of their house that gives them a total of three rooms, one large sitting room downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs which is a perfect example of adding space for a growing family, or if you need your parents to move in with you. A lot of houses have small rooms especially if they’re modern builds, so it can be a great way to also make rooms bigger if you don’t need a whole extra room.

Nowadays, a lot of people simply make their homes bigger than move, not only does it give you the extra room you desire but it saves you the stress on a move.
