CaseCompany CityMarble Review

A few weeks I was invited by CaseCompany to have a go at designing a new phone case using their trademarked CityMarble technology. I thought it looked fun and as an avid traveller it sounded like something that would be right up my street. I was unfamiliar with CaseCompany but after a quick look at their website I decided that creating my own case was going to be simple & quick so I went ahead with it.

According to the people behind CityMarble;

CityMarble™ is a new and original way to design and customise your smartphone case. You can create your own patterns with maps (like Google Maps) and print them on your smartphone case.

And yes it’s as simple to do as it sounds. The website allows you to create your case step by step. First you choose what device you want to make your case for. There is a large selection of phone cases, tablet and even laptop cases so there is something for everyone. You can then search for the area of map you want on your case. This can be found by using map technology. Once you’ve done this you can choose as large or small area for the map you want on your device, rotate it and even choose to annotate it with an emoji or simply the destination name. Then you order. The price depends on the device. I went for the iPhone 7 flip case which came in at £18.68. For something that is printed to specification it arrived promptly and I have to say it’s an incredibly cute idea.

It arrived in a small bag with a cute business card. A small bit of foam was inside the case so the plastic didn’t rub together and scratch in transit. The case fits my iPhone 7 perfectly. The printing is of good quality which really surprised me. I’ve had printed flip phone cases before and sometimes it ends up patchy but the ink look great and is vibrant. I really do like flip cases as there is place to hold my cards making it great to take on a night out.

Of course the area I went with was of a Disney park. After trying both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris I decided the latter looked better on my phone and you can easily identify the layout of the park. I wanted to have a geotag on it but it would only give me “Paris, France” rather than Disneyland Paris so I left it off.

I only have one issue with it and that’s there are so few colour schemes you can choose when designing it. Each one shows different areas. I would have preferred a choice that showed the map in more detail especially for somewhere like a Disney park but I know that minimalistic design will appeal to some people.

I think this will be a great gift idea for couples for birthdays, anniversaries or Christmases. You can pick a city that’s special to you both and have it printed onto a case. It could be where you met, or proposed or even where you first went on holiday. It would make for a really original gift and actually be something useful.

I think CityMarble is really innovative and I know my case is going to come in handy while reminding me of one of my homes.

If you could have a map of anywhere on your device case, where would you choose?
