Dermalogica Sebum Clearing Masque From Pure Beauty Review*
Well this is a rarity! A beauty post on Cocktails in Teacups, they haven’t made a regular occurrence for a good year now. Mainly due to the fact that since going to Disney became such a huge part of our life beauty went out the window. Of course I still wear make up, wash my hair, clean my face, I just use high street products or something from my stash. Plus, lets face it, I was never very good at the whole beauty reviews anyway!
But a few weeks back the kind people at Pure Beauty sent me over a masque to try, hopefully it was going to be that miracle product that tackled my problem skin (I’ve been on the hunt for the holy grail product since I was 13, that’s 15 years, over half my life haha) I recently went back on the contraceptive pill and it seems to have made it worse than ever, so fingers crossed this was going to do something!
The product is the Sebum Clearing Masque from the Dermalogica Store on Pure Beauty. I have combination skin that’s also sensitive however having used Dermalogica products before I knew I’d get on okay with it. The Sebum Clearing Masque comes from the mediBac range that is specially formulated to battle adult strains of acne. I suffer with a particular form on my forehead where I’m plagued with under the skin bumps that occassionally become red and angry, along with hormonal problem areas on my chin. From the description this masque is exactly what I’m looking for.
According to the Pure Beauty website;
Dermalogica Sebum Clearing Masque is a cooling, refining and deep-cleaning Kaolin and Bentonite clay masque that purifies, absorbs excess surface oil and helps prevent future breakouts. Niacinamide, Zinc Gluconate, Yeast Extract, Caffeine and Biotin purify and inhibit overactive sebaceous gland activity while soothing irritation. Salicylic Acid clears congested follicles to minimise development of future comedones and breakouts, while Spiraea and Cinnamon Bark extracts inhibit the growth of acnegenic bacteria while stimulating the skins natural antimicrobial agents for clearer, healthier skin.
In case you’re wondering what exactly “sebum” is, it’s an oily matter than helps protect your skin by stopping it from drying out and it can be both good and bad. Too much of it can be notorious for causing breakouts. When your skin produces too much this is what makes your skin oily and I have a problem with it on my forehead specifically. One of the great things about the masque is you can use it a few times a week on problematic areas so every time I took a bath I ensured I treated my forehead to a layer of this.
A little bit really did go a long way which for me makes the £37.95 price tag not seem so steep. The amount on my hand in the photo covered my whole t-zone and if I was also planning to do my chin I only needed a tiny bit more. It’s not a thick clay like texture despite being a clay based masque, it’s much lighter which I liked as I hate the feeling of anything too heavy on my skin. I would apply it to be t-zone three/four times a week and my chin twice a week. After 10 minutes it was easy to wash off with a soft cloth. My skin did feel tight after using it but this was rectified with some moisturiser.
So what did I think? After using this for three weeks I can see an improvement in my skin texture. Although I’m still getting break outs they’re a lot smaller and easier to contain and the masque definitely soothed my skin and made it noticeable a lot less red around the inflamed areas. I’m hoping with continued use I can continue to see a difference.
I love ordering from Pure Beauty, the service is great and you always get a huge wad of samples so you can try a few new products and get an idea of anything else you think may work for your skin. I’ve already got my eye on the Hydrablur Primer, it’ll be perfect for my holiday to Florida in a couple of months!
