A Quick Guide on Planning a Memorable House Party*

Throwing a house party is definitely way better than going to the club provided you plan it well. The beauty is that you have control over everything that happens at the party. You are in charge of who can and can’t attend, and you have a choice of which food and drinks you would like to serve. However, things can go chaotically wrong if you don’t get it right! Don’t let that happen to your party. Let us take you through the essentials of planning a successful house party.

Hire a good DJ

A house party without music would be such a bore. When budgeting for your house party, ensure you make arrangements to hire a good DJ who can conjure up a good playlist to keep your guests entertained. Your DJ will assess how well your guests respond to specific genres and play the music that everyone at the party will enjoy.

Be picky with your guest list

We all have those kinds of friends who get rowdy and want to fight everyone at the party after having only two drinks. To avoid drama and fracas, be selective with the people you invite to your house party. Invite people with unique skill sets such as neatness and basic household management skills so that you can guarantee the success of your house party.

Stock up the bathroom

Your guests are bound to use the washroom multiple times during the party. You wouldn’t want to be hosted at a venue without sufficient toilet paper and napkins. Ensure you stock up your bathroom with the necessary supplies and keep checking whether you need to replenish anything that runs out. Make sure to add a few tampons and sanitary towels just in case.

Get a professional photographer

Photographs tell a story of the past and are a great way to look back at our memories. Ensure you book a professional photographer who can take random photos of events happening during the party. Some of your friends would also like to get posed shots to post on social media or print on a canvas.

Extend an invitation to your neighbors

It would be wise to warn your neighbors you will be hosting a house party to avoid complaining about the noise. However, a better alternative would be to let them know they are welcome to attend your party. Even though they decline your offer or fail to show up, they will feel great to have been considered.

Plan a list of fun activities

Every party needs to have a plan; otherwise, your guests will quickly get bored. You could come up with a list of fun ice breakers as everyone introduces themselves and plays a few rounds of board games. Place a deck of cards nearby just in case some of your friends fancy a few rounds of poker during the party.

Organize for good food and drinks

The one thing that people expect when invited to a house party is to be well fed. If you want your house party to succeed, ensure that the food selection is on point. Ensure you have a wide selection of food to cater to the needs of everyone, including the vegans and those with allergies. Stock up on alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, such as whiskey, gin, and club sodas, to avoid stepping out for more drinks. Make sure you cater for the taste and preference of the guests.

Rearrange your furniture

People don’t go to a house party to sit down and look at each other the whole night. At some point during the night, your guests would want to dance to the music, while others would like to talk to each other while standing. You might have to move your furniture around to create more space for your guests. If your apartment is too cramped, you might even need to remove some furniture and return it after the party is over.

Turn one room into a cloakroom

Your friends will need a place to hang their coats and store their purses without having to worry about the safety of their belongings. Set aside one room of your house and turn it into a cloakroom containing a rail and hangers or a simple coat rack. You could keep this room locked and stay with the key so that you ensure everyone’s belongings are safe while they mingle.

“Lie about the starting time”

Frankly, most people are not good at keeping time and arrive one or two hours late. If you know your friends are laid back in nature and will most likely make the house party start late, you will have to use some tricks. You can lie to them about the starting time. If the house party begins at 8 pm, tell them it starts at 6.30 pm. Tell your friends who know a thing or two about time management the exact time you intend to start the party so that everyone comes at around the same time.

Don’t get too intoxicated

It is very easy to get carried away and have one too many drinks during your house party. The problem arises when you confront your neighbor while you are drunk and wake up the following day with no memory of the encounter. You will also not be in control and prevent chaos when you have had too much to drink. To be on the safe side, ensure you don’t get too drunk.

Lock up the bedroom doors

The last thing you want is to find out something has gone missing after all the guests have gone home. If you live with roommates, you wouldn’t want to hear them complaining about missing valuables. You never know who to trust, and since you will be inviting many people to your home, it would be safe to restrict access to you and your roommate’s bedrooms by locking the doors.

Wrapping up

A house party should be the ultimate get-together for you and your friends. Now that you have a few tricks up your sleeve, you can now go-ahead to plan the best house party ever. Your friends will be dying to be invited to your place for yet another house party because they know they will have the time of their lives.
