Things to Consider Before Buying a Hot Tub

If you’ve got it into your head that your life will be meaningless and incomplete until you own a hot tub, you might have looked online and been quickly overwhelmed by all the talk about jets, pumps, hydrotherapy and a whole bunch of other stuff you didn’t understand.

Or maybe you were interested in the technical features but got distracted by hot tubs with flashy lights and fancy music systems.

These are all important features and, of course, you need to be happy with your purchase and make sure it has all the bells and whistles you want (if indeed bells and whistles are your thing), but there are a few considerations to be made first before deciding if a hot tub really is for you.

Running costs of a hot tub

The initial outlay is just the beginning of the cost of being a hot tub owner. You don’t just buy one and that’s it. Like a puppy, kitten or child, hot tubs need looking after and looking after one costs money.

First of all, you need to factor in the delivery and installation costs, if they’re not included.

You’ll also need a base such as decking or concrete to put the hot tub on and an electrician to wire it in.

After it’s all set up, there’ll be ongoing energy costs and repair bills to cover.

Then, of course, there’s the money you’ll spend on Prosecco and nibbles when you invite your friends round for a hot tub party.

Maintenance

Unfortunately, you can’t just buy a hot tub, fill it up with water once and that’s it until the water naturally evaporates and it needs refilling.

A hot tub needs looking after by having its pH levels balanced (which isn’t as scary as it sounds – your retailer will be able to advise you on this and provide the appropriate chemicals) and by the water being filtered regularly (again, that’s not as scary as it sounds, as a quality hot tub will have a good filtration system).

Hot tubs also need to be drained and refilled a few times a year.

Why do you want a hot tub?

Before you scoot off to your nearest retailer to buy the prettiest hot tub with the fanciest lights and best music system, you need to have a think about why you want to buy a hot tub in the first place.

Is it for relaxation? To relieve pain? To entertain your friends?

Different hot tubs have different features to suit different needs. For example, there’s no point buying a hot tub with 100s of jets if you just want to lie back, relax and read a book in it.

If you do want to be thoroughly massaged though, not only do you need a hot tub with lots of jets but you need those jets to be positioned in the right place too.

And if entertaining’s your thing, you’ll need a hot tub with more than two seats (unless you only have one friend, of course).

Go to a reputable hot tub retailer

If you’ve read this far and you still want to buy a hot tub, make sure you go to a reputable hot tub retailer.

A specialist hot tub retailer will advise you on the perfect hot tub for you and your needs. You’ll be shown around their showroom and told all about the hot tubs they have and, not only will you get answers to any questions you may have, but you’ll also be able to try out a hot tub while you’re there too.

After sales service and warranty support from experienced, qualified technicians is also important for not only your hot tub’s longevity but also your peace of mind.

Taking all the above into account, you should find the perfect hot tub for you and your needs.
