Refer To This Checklist Before Bringing Your Newborn Baby Home*

Parenthood is one of the most exhilarating parts of everyone’s life, especially if you are new at it.

Whether you are coming back from a hospital or an adoption center, bringing your little one home is definitely a major milestone and an overwhelming experience.

While you may have done everything in your power to prepare yourself to live with a newborn by setting up the nursery and going to antenatal classes, there are some things many newbies forget to take into consideration.

Now, amidst all the hustle and bustle, you might be getting several bits of advice on how to welcome your little one the right way.

Reality check! Without certain essentials, the process of bringing your little one home can get really messy and, worst of all, unsafe.

So, if you are also about to bring a newborn home for the first time, here’s a checklist that can help you streamline the entire process. Let’s take a quick look.

  • A comfortable car seat

While leaving home for the hospital or adoption center, many parents forget to take into account that the next time they will be in a car, they will have an extra member with them.

This is why they forget to pack a car seat for the little one they are about to welcome.

Newbie parents should know that car seats are mandatory by federal law. Even the professionals at your hospital or adoption center wouldn’t allow you to take your baby home without a car seat.

Not to mention, it is NOT AT ALL safe to carry a newborn baby in your arms while someone is driving.

That’s why you need to lookup an infant car seat online so that you are all set to bring your newborn home. You can also opt for a convertible baby seat which will also come in handy in the near future.

  • A separate bag for the baby

Moms-to-be often packs their bags for the hospital and their trip home way in advance to avoid last-minute struggles. Some even wait for the weather to decide what kind of clothes they may require.

But packing everything in a single bag can create a lot of hassle in your hospital room. So, make sure you have a separate bag for your little one.

In your bag, it would be best to carry some loose-fitting clothes with an elastic waistband to stay comfortable throughout your trip home.

Refrain from overdressing your baby. The key is to dress them as you would dress yourself.

For the warm weather, you can dress your little one in a T-shirt and light cotton pants and throw a baby blanket over bare legs.

If it is too cold, put on footie pajamas, a warm blanket, and a hat to cover your baby. Do not use the blanket to cover your baby’s face to avoid suffocation.

  • Nursery essentials

Today, nurseries are much different than the ones in the past few decades. Even with the modern technological advances, newbie parents need a welcoming and nurturing nursery to make their babies feel comfortable.

You would at least need a safe space for your baby to sleep without feeling suffocated. You should also have storage space for your baby’s clothes and a place to change their diapers.

You can also add a humidifier so that the room is all set to welcome your little one. Consider installing a baby monitor so that you can keep an eye on your baby throughout the day.

Final words

Preparing yourself for the arrival of your baby is the first step to parenting. So, make sure that you do it the right way because once you bring your baby home, you will have some of the busiest days ever.
