Summer Date Ideas*

Summer is officially here! Not so much where I am (woo, northern) but everywhere else seems to be living through a heat wave at the moment and because of that, activities change including what you might feel like doing when it comes to going on a date. Of course this is still personal preference, while some people bask in the heat, others shy away from it and have a fan pointed at their face on full power at all hours of the day. So I’ve put some date ideas together which are a mix of ways to keep cool, and ways to enjoy the sun.

Remember if you are heading out in the summer sun ensure you keep cool and hydrated (no shame in carrying a bottle of water with you), liberally apply that sun cream and break up our day by seeking shade. While masks and social distancing are no longer law, ensure you only do what makes you feel comfortable and if that’s by continuing to socially distance date, that’s fine too.

Out in the Heat

Hi the Beach

If you’re lucky enough to be somewhere near the beach, it makes for a great day out, as a date or otherwise. With temperatures soaring here in the UK, you can each pack a towel, your cutest beach ensemble and your sun cream (50SPF guys, there is nothing nice about being red as a lobster on your first date) and hit the sands. Heck, it’s even hot enough to wear a bikini (if that’s your bag) and let’s not forget about the fun that can be had with an ice cream cone!

Picnic in the Park

If you’re not lucky enough to live close to a beach why not pack a picnic and head to a green space? You can find one no matter where you live as so many cities have designated parks, many of which offer summer entertainment such as live music and pop up markets so it would be fun to check those out too. Bring a blanket and then each bring your favourite foods to share, maybe even a bottle of bubbly to make it special.

Keeping it Cool

Head to the Cinema

It’s a classic date choice, even in the height of summer. Cinema complexes always have the best air con here in the UK, it’s dark and you can share a tub of popcorn. The cinema is one of the industries hit hardest by the COVID pandemic and they’re desperate to bring customers in so they’re showing a good mixture of new releases as well as throw backs. It’s a great way to introduce your date to the sort of movies you enjoy.

Make Plans in the Evening

While the temperature isn’t dropping a lot as the evening rolls around, it is a much nicer atmosphere to be out in. And in my opinion there isn’t anything more romantic than heading for a stroll to watch the sunset. Make sure you bring a jacket and you could even end the evening finding a bar with outdoor seating for a couple of drinks.
