5 Things to Think About When Creating a DIY Photo Gallery Wall*

I am someone who really hates bare walls. I know as a blogger I should be embracing the white walls, perfect place to take photos, right? Well I can’t stand it. I hate how cold it looks and I also find the house so much more echo-y if my walls are empty. So pretty much every wall in my house has something hung on it, from canvas prints to framed photos but my favourites are where I’ve made a DIY photo gallery wall such as above my bed, in Little Miss’ room and above my dressing table. The one above my dressing table is very mismatched however the one above my bad was planned using tutorials on Pinterest, so today I’m giving you a heads up on some of the things you need to consider when you’re creating a photo gallery layout on your wall.

Where Will You Put It
First thing to consider is where you’re going to put it. For me above my bed was a no brainer, I have a fairly low head board giving me a lot of space and it would make for a nice focal point. Eventually I’d like to do the same in my sitting room above my fireplace, I just need to collect a fair amount of art work and frames first.

What Kind of Frames
Speaking of frames, next you need to decide what kind you’re going for. Are you all going for the same style like I did (this was mainly because they were all £1 each, if I went for anything else it would have gotten really expensive fast!) or are you going to go for mismatched frames which always looks amazing but can get costly. Or perhaps you’re not going to go with frames at all, frameless posters are a great for creating a photo gallery.

What Layout Are You Going For
Next, decide on the layout. There are loads of ideas on Pinterest. I just went for a simple one where I didn’t need to measure out too much as I’m not that great with any DIY.

Are They Hung Safely
When I was hanging my pictures above my bed I had to make sure they were hung safely as I really didn’t fancy a frame falling on my head at night. But regardless of whether or not you’ve hung them above a bed or not, you must make sure they’re safe and secure as a falling frame could result in broken glass or other damages.

Can You Add to It
Finally, do you want to add to your layout in the future? For me, I wanted one that expanded from a central frame so I could add to it at a later date however you may not. It is something you should consider before creating your layout as it’s a fair amount of hard work for something you need to dismantle when you get bored.
