4 Fun Ways To Have Easter At Home While Social Distancing*
Egg hunts, Easter brunch, pictures with the Easter bunny, and for some, church, are all traditions we look forward to every year on Easter Sunday. During these uncertain times, the best thing to do as parents is to keep things moving forward as best as you can. While social distancing might mean you may not be able to make a visit to the Easter bunny, or have the annual neighborhood egg hunt, you should take comfort in knowing that you’re safer at home and can make this year’s Easter a little more special than the rest by making it more personal for you and your family.
Egg hunt inside and outside
If you’ve got a backyard or front yard, and if the weather permits, you can still have an egg hunt with your little ones. This year you only need to worry about putting your kids’ favorite candy inside the eggs, since it’s their egg hunt and the prizes are specifically for them. If you’ve got older kids, you can make it more entertaining by leaving clues and hints throughout the house and yard to make it a bit more interesting for them.
If you don’t have access to a backyard, don’t let that stop you. Having an egg hunt indoors is more intimate and can even be done first thing when you all roll out of bed.
Get dressed in your Sunday best
One of the biggest highlights of Easter Sunday for a lot of families is getting dressed up in their best outfits of the year. Instagram and Facebook feeds are filled with everyone’s Sunday best. If your family is one of those fashionista families, don’t let this year be any different. Whether you’ve got a little princess that loves wearing her girls special occasion dresses or a little boy that looks dapper in his mini toddler suit, online shopping is still available, and it’s not too late to have their ensembles delivered in time.
Once everyone is dressed, set up your camera on a self-timer so you can be included too, and get some pictures of your family all dressed up. Home photography sessions are all the rage right now so you can be as candid as you want to be, or pose in front of your Easter decor.
Have a fancy Easter brunch
Every restaurant in town seems to always be sold out every Easter Sunday. This year, if you’d like to continue supporting your favorite restaurant, call ahead to see if they have order times available for Easter morning. Due to social distancing, restaurants will most likely either have orders delivered or available for curbside pick-up.
Since you won’t need to spend all morning preparing a meal, you can set up your dining room table with all the bells and whistles instead and have your annual Easter brunch at home. As a bonus, since you won’t need to get dirty in the kitchen, you can keep your fancy outfits on while you eat to add a special touch to your memorable Easter weekend.
Open Easter baskets
When choosing items for your Easter baskets this year, make sure there are more items to entertain rather than candy. Anticipate spending your day at home and choose basket items accordingly. Whether it’s a new coloring book and crayons, painting accessories, an egg dying kit, Easter puzzles, or small games and toys, give your little ones something they can be entertained with for more than 10 minutes.
It’s difficult to practice social distancing and even more so during fun holidays when the best part usually comes from gathering with friends and family. Take every opportunity to make it one of the best Easters your family will remember.
