Things to Think About When Moving*

Moving home is a lengthy process and can cause a lot of stress, especially if you’re selling and buying. From the moment you decide to sell and buy somewhere new you have a lot to consider. You need your home valued and listed. Then you’ll work with a solicitor to make sure everything is above board. If you end up in a housing chain where everyone needs to move at roughly the same time it can make the situation even more stressful. Dates can be changed, or someone could pull out. Then you have to think about the actual move and everything that goes with that, which is what I’m going to talk about today.

Here are a few things to think about when moving into you new house;

Here are a few things to consider on moving day;

Are you unpacking or decorating?
Some people like to put their own personal stamp on their home before they fully move in. If you’re in a chain though this may mean “living through the mess” as my mum would say. So when you move it could be that everything stays in boxes until you’re done with the decorating. Or perhaps you plan to decorate over time, perhaps money is tight or you just don’t want to start pulling things to pieces yet.

Do you have enough hands?
A lot of people try to do the majority of their moving in one day. They’ll first look into some removal quotes to move anything big and go back and forth between the two houses throughout the day. If you need to hand the keys over at the end of the day you need to ensure you make the deadline. It’s important to consider how much man power you actually need to move everything and if you feel like you do need outside help, professional house removals could be the way forward. Try looking for a Moving van London if that’s the area you live in or North Carolina movers if you’re in the States. So you can either hire help, or ask people you trust to pitch in to ensure it’s done for when you need to be out the house and into yours.

Have you taken out house insurance?
A lot of things can go wrong in a house move so before you start you should look into travel insurance. Both building and contents. You should also make sure it covers you for the move itself especially if you’re trusting others to help you. Anything could end up broken and ruined in transit. You can find this insurance simply by checking a comparison website. This way if anything happens you’re covered and it takes a huge weight off you when it comes to the big move. After all, moving is stressful enough.

What about the locks?
For me, the first thing I’d want to do is change the lock. Why? You don’t know who has a key to the doors from the old owners. Yes, this is a little paranoid but I’d want to feel safe in my new home and know everyone who has a key to my doors. You can even make sure this happens before you move in fully ensuring your family and it’s contents are safe from the word go.
