Why Private School Might Be Best For Your Child*

As a parent I always knew that I wanted my child to get the best education. A good education can set you up for life, it gives your child the skills to survive in the world, it teaches them about the world around them and will eventually set them up for their working career. Unfortunately these days, a lot of schools are falling below recommended standards and for me, that’s worrying. If you’re already considering sending your child to a private school like Claremont School, here are some reasons why it might be the best decision you make as a parent.

Your Child Might Be Skilled Enough to Receive a Scholarship
First of all, look into whether your child will be able to receive a scholarships. Different schools have different criterias as to what they award scholarships for. For example, our local private school gives them to high achievers in sports and music. Other schools look at academia. If your child is exceptional at any areas you should do your research, and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Not All Schools Offer All Subjects
Due to budget cuts and the lack of specialised teachers, not all schools offer all subjects. Many have cut creative subjects such as art, music and theatre, others don’t focus on languages. If your child wants to follow a career path in something that isn’t offered at their school, look into going private. They usually do have a strong focus on the arts which would help your child in the long run.

Your Child Struggles in Large Class Numbers
Typically, private schools have smaller class sizes which benefits children who struggle learning in a busy environment. Quieter children tend to be over looked by teachers in large classrooms which results in them falling behind as they’re not having their needs met. Unfortunately a lot of this is due to the teaching staff and resources being stretched. Sending your child to a school you pay for can solve this and give your child a better school experience.

You Want To Give Them The Best Start Possible
Perhaps you can’t afford to send your child to private school for their full education, so perhaps look at sending them for their last few years. Experts believe that those last few formative years (in England & Wales, their GCSE years) are the most important in education and by sending your children to private school for those last few years could really set them up for life.

Parenting is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, and making these sorts of decisions alone doesn’t get any easier as they get older, in fact, I’d argue it gets harder. What parent doesn’t want to give their child the very best start, but everyone has different priorities in what constitutes that. Whether or not you believe in private schooling, every parent has the right to their own opinion on it.
