Fashion Content // Creating A DIY Backless Bra*

Imagine the scenario.

You just bought yourself a stunning backless dress online and you can’t wait to wear it for your birthday this evening. As you are getting ready you put on your bra and the dress over the top as normal, but then you realise your mistake. Your dress is no longer backless and instead you can see the boring straps and clasps of your supportive bra…

It’s a nightmare which a lot of us go through when picking out outfits for events and the idea of not being able to wear backless numbers is a little saddening. But don’t fret because we have the ideal solution for you- you can make a backless bra at home in less than 20 minutes and it can save the day!

Get a great bra
The first step to making your own backless bra is sourcing the bra which you are going to use for it. You need to make sure you have a pretty and supportive bra to use so that you can get the most out of support in the night. If you don’t already have a bra at home you can look at the lingerie sale at Lingerie Outlet and pick one up which you are happy to play around with.

Cut off the back straps and snip the arm straps loose
The first thing you will be doing to create a backless bra is to cut off the back. Where you see the cup ending, cut off the back and then also cut the point where your straps meet the back of the bra. Discard the back.

Place the arm straps under the cup
The best step in the process is to find a spot approximately a third of the way into the cup from

The outside and pin your straps in place for a moment until you are ready to sew. This might look a little diagonal at first but this is perfectly ok and it will help the bra fit you later on.

Sew everything together
Now that you have pinned everything in place you can sew up the straps to secure them. If you’re unsure what to do you can find ready to sew instructions online. Take your time sewing these up and make sure to make a few stitches to ensure that the straps stay where they should and don’t come apart from the cup of the bra. Once you are happy with everything you have a new bra which can be used for any backless garment whether it be a halter top, a dress or something entirely different.

Enjoy your new bra!
Now that you have finished your bra, you can try it on by hooking the straps over your shoulders and adjusting them until your boobs are sufficiently supported and happy. Put on your favourite dress, take time to make sure the fit is right and that it feels secure to you, and you can finally go to the party with an outfit you love without having to worry about your back showing too much!
