3 Ideas for Fun Days Out for Next Spring*

Summer may be over for 2018 and the cold weather is upon us, and as gloomy as that may feel, especially as a parent, lets face it, Spring will roll around in no time. This year I  felt so organised. The older LM gets the more she needs entertained so I’ve decided to make a little kitty where I put money in each month to have loads of adventures in Spring & Summer 2019. I know not everyone likes to plan ahead, but I do, it helps me cope with my anxiety to have and exciting and adventurous life planned for us, and my favourite time of year to do this is Spring. You don’t have the crowds or the potential heat of the summer but it’s still warm enough for a pleasant day out.

Today I’m sharing 3 ideas for fun days out in the Spring, one that costs nothing, one that’s cheap and one that’s a little more costly if you’re looking for a treat.

Nature Walk
It’s free and your kids will love it. Spring is such a lovely time to get back to nature. Be it at a farm, in the woods or even at the beach. Last Spring LM’s school did beach school where they went and learned about the beach, what lives there, how it’s formed and she loved it. The wood is also a brilliant place to explore, the animals are coming out of hibernation, the plants are green again. You can make it as educational as you wish, but I can guarantee everyone will feel better getting out in the fresh air. If your kids aren’t into walking (like my nephew) why not get out on a bike? After all winter being cooped up indoors an exhilarating bike ride could just be what you need.

Visit a English Heritage Site
Spring is a great time to go exploring, and as I mentioned above, the crowds of the summer haven’t arrived yet and it’s not so hot all that you want to do is picnic. A great place to visit is an English Heritage site. There are over 400 spread all around the country ranging from castles to historic villages and even Roman sites. There is something for everyone and they really make an effort to cater to all ages. Some are free to explore, especially outdoor sites, so slip on those wellies and head out for the day. However, in my opinion it’s 100% worth investing in an English Heritage annual pass that will provide you discounts to a lot more attractions, these are the ones that hold special events for families throughout the year and there is always something going on! Our favourite is Alnwick Castle & Gardens.

Enjoy the Cricket World Cup
Next May to July England is hosting the Cricket World cup. It’s not a sport a lot of kids are introduced to early, but it’s one that can be exciting and not that hard to understand. There are 11 venues spread all over the UK and ticket prices are reasonable. There will also be fun kids activities before each match so you could head out and make a day of it. If you’re looking for a sport to follow in the Spring this is it.

I 100% recommend getting your tickets now as there is a chance they’ll sell out quick. It will also give you time to plan an exciting day around and really get ready to immerse your family in the world of cricket. Football may not have come home, but maybe cricket can!
