5 Adventures to Go on with Your Kids This Summer*
The school summer break is nearly here! I know there are some parents out there groaning but I’m so excited to have Little Miss off fr 6 weeks! At the weekend I’ll be sitting down with her to do our annual summer bucket list and I can’t wait to hear what ideas she has. But for today I’m going to share 5 generic ideas for the summer if you’re stuck one how to entertain your kids during the long haul.
Go on a Picnic
We’re all hoping for some wondering sunny weather for 6 weeks and if we do get it, go out for a picnic. Kids love eating outside and you can sit back while they run around in the sun before joining you on the blanket for some food. Picnic food is also fun to put together. You can make a whole day of it by baking cakes, making sausage rolls or pasta salad before packing it all up, heading to the park and spending the afternoon having food and fun.
Visit an Aquarium
We did this a few summers ago and the kids loved it. There are aquariums scattered all over the UK and some even have school holiday activities on. Check out your closest one and see what they have on this summer. The Sea Life ones don’t just have fish, some have seals, some have penguins. They make a great day out.
Go to the Beach
It’s the summer, what is more summer than going to the beach! I’m so lucky that I live beside the seaside, in winter it sucks but any sunny day we can pack a bag and head to the beach. I know this is harder if you don’t live near a beach like we do, however with the right amount of planning a day away to the beach doesn’t need to be so out of reach, living in the UK means there is always a beach less than 70 miles away. That’s the distance between where I live and the nearest city.
Visit a Museum
Like with Aquariums, Museums usually have activities for kids on during the holidays where they can learn and have fun. LM has a special fondness for museums, she loves to explore them which is great for me as it’s something I really enjoy. Science Museums are always good for hands on exhibitions and a lot of them around the country offer free admission.
Go to a Theme Park
While all the other options are relatively cheap, visiting a theme park can be rather expensive, but if you’re not going on holiday this could be a great treat. There are theme parks scattered up and down the country from the big names like Alton Towers and Lego Land to the lesser known ones like Light Water Valley and Flamingo Land. They all have varying degrees of rides and things to do but there is usually something for all the family.
If you’re planning on a few day trips away it might be worth looking into a Stagecoach bus pass, they have they for all sorts of people and families. It could save you money and inspire you to see more than just the area you live in. And lets face it, kids love buses.
What do you have planned this summer?
