10 Easy Ways to Save Money*
Tomorrow is November, which brings us into what I find the two most expensive months of the year, the run up to Christmas (then I also have Little Miss’ birthday in January!) like the Asda advert constantly reminds us “every little helps” and with Christmas in mind, this is so true. I have to admit, I’m pretty terrible at saving money unless I have a deadline in mind like paying off a holiday. So here are 10 easy ways I use to save money.
1. Check that you’re paying the correct amount for gas & electricity using a website like Compare the Market. Sometimes there are even bonuses available if you switch to a new provider.
2. Shop around. I don’t buy all my groceries in the same place, I buy from where has the best offers for what I want.
3. Or use a coupon for grocery delivery. Loads of supermarkets offer money off for the first home delivery. I just make a new email address every time I want to use it.
4. Work the 3 for 2 offers. Loads of places do 3 for 2 on Christmas gifts. That’s one for mum, one for dad and a free one for my little sister.
5. By pass those 09 numbers. I recently discovered Contact Number UK which puts your directly through to a person rather than waiting for hours on end. I used it when I forgot to cancel my Amazon Prime and wanted a refund.
6. Check you’re not paying for extras on your mobile phone. I upgraded recently and forgot to cancel my old additional data so I was paying an extra £6 a month.
7. Change your copper. I have two copper jars, one for Little Miss and one for me. When I changed them using a machine at Tesco I got £32.75 after they took whatever they charge off. I had no idea I had that much lying around! Great spending money for Little Miss in Florida.
8. Sell on a local selling group. I was going to say eBay but lets face it, that’s not easy these days. A selling group you can list then someone will pick up your unwanted stuff. Facebook has tons of these.
9. Use voucher code websites. Time and time again I make this point when talking about saving money. The Internet is full of websites like DealsDaddy. Over the years I must have saved £100s of pounds by always checking for a free delivery or a 10-20% off code. So worth a quick google.
10. Sign up for cashback. If you’re making big purchases this year for Christmas it’s worth going through a cashback website, my favourite is Quidco.
