Why I Have The Best Job in the World*
Being a parent is one of the hardest jobs in the world. It is amazing, though and I wouldn’t change life as it is now. I think if you asked any group of mums, they would tell you just how rewarding it is. I think of the best reasons is that you are your child’s favourite person in the world. You are the person that they call out for when they are ill and want to have a cuddle with when they fall over. For me, that is one of the most magical things about it. There are plenty of other things too. Here are some of my thoughts on being a mum.
I love how you see everything from a completely different aspect. For a child, seeing a train on the track is the most amazing thing ever. An aeroplane in the sky? Pretty much awesome. And animals? Don’t even get me started. They are so amazing as far as my daughter is concerned. You get to enjoy the simple things in life and small things like this, all over again.
I love how cute everything is when you have a little one. From their tiny and cute little shoes to the dinky trucks and cars that they play with. Shopping for your child is one of the most fun things ever. It can be expensive as it is hard to resist all of the cute things that are out there!
Seeing your child grow and develop is amazing. You have a blank canvas when they are born and it is interesting to see who they develop and grow into. They, of course, come along with their own personality. But you are part of shaping and moulding that little personality. It is a big responsibility, and I don’t always feel up to the task. It is an amazing journey, though. I always hope that my daughter grows up to be a kind and caring person. I want her to be happy most of all too.
Life feels like it has more substance with a child. In my life before being a mum, I would just cruise through life and not focus on the important things. When you have a child, you take more time to appreciate every aspect. I think of Christmas time before a child and Christmas time with a child. They are so different! I was never one to bake Christmas cookies or decorate stockings, but now that is they kind of thing that we do. I was never one to decorate Easter eggs or anything like that, so having a child has made me appreciate life and the ordinary moments so much more.
There are days and times when it isn’t so rosy, especially being a single parent. It is challenging, and somehow your children just know what winds you up. I wouldn’t change it for the world, though. I love my little girl and love watching her grow. I am so proud to be her mother.
