Favourite TV Shows to Binge Watch*
Being single is often incredibly lonely and dull, especially in the evening. So I’ve taken to heading to bed about 8pm and binge watching TV shows. It’s the best way to really switch off and get out of my head (something I’ve needed to do a lot of at the moment). However the hardest part is trying to decide what to watch next. I’m really not someone who can sit down in front of my TV and flick til I find something I fancy, nor am I like my mum and have my set programs I watch every day of the week. I like to have one or two series that I watch back to back each episode for a few days or weeks. I try to alternate the genre too so I don’t get too bored.
Slotfruit recently conducted a survey to find out what people thought the best tv show of 2015 was. They asked over 1600 people, and here’s the break down of the results;
1) Great British Bake Off – 12%
1) Downton Abbey – 12%
2) Strictly Come Dancing – 9%
3) Dr Who – 9%
4) The X Factor – 7%
5) The Apprentice – 5%
6) Broadchurch – 5%
7) Humans – 5%
8) Eastenders – 5%
9) Masterchef – 4%
9) Britains Got Talent – 4%
10) Bear Grylls – 5%
11) Coronation Street – 3%
12) Dr Foster – 3%
13) Poldork – 3%
14) The Voice – 3%
15) Casualty – 2%
I’m fairly sure this only British TV shows, since Game of Thrones isn’t mentioned but I have watched a fair amount of these, including a binge watch of Poldark and Broadchurch (Aiden Turner and David Tennant were the draws for me as I’m not usually one for British dramas. However, I’m so pleased to see Great British Bake Off tied for the top place. This is my absolute favourite TV show. I love the layout, the presenter and judge dynamics and of course, I love the fact it’s baking! A couple of years back I even took part in a Bloggers Bake off Competition called Cake That, and WON! I’m so happy GBBO for Sports Relief is now on to tide me over until August.
I’m also going to share five of my favourite TV shows to binge watch.
New Girl
I recently watched all four seasons of New Girl before I started season 5 and I have to admit I forgot how funny it was. I would actually be lying in bed laughing out loud and then having to cover my mouth incase I work Little Miss. Zooey Deschanel is one of my style and life icons, but it’s the whole cast together that makes it so funny. This was my third watch through and I have to admit it’s taken over How I Met Your Mother as one of my favourite TV shows ever. I don’t know who I ship more, Cece & Schmidt or Jess & Nick! I cry buckets at the end of season 4!
Once Upon a Time
Another series I try to watch through from start to finish before the new season starts. I’d say Once Upon a Time is my all time favourite Tv Shows. Come on it’s fairytales and a lot of Disney references. I get way too invested in the show and basically want to talk about it all the time which of course drives people crazy but I honestly don’t care. I have been watching it since it first aired on channel 4, then got cancelled in the UK but I kept up with it. In June I’m going to France with my bestie Bee and another friend to attend a Once Upon a Time convention and I’m so excited about it!
Sabrina the Teenage Witch
I won’t lie, I’ve binged this show twice. Once at uni and once a couple of years back and I still love it as much as I did in my early teens when I did tune in to watch the newest episode on Nick. I’m still in love with Harvey Kinkle and I ship him, and only him with Sabrina. It hasn’t aged well but it still has everything I need for a binge session. I’m currently working my way through Saved by the Bell, another Nickelodeon classic from my youth and I adore it. It’s just so 90s!
Pokemon
I have no seen every since episode of Pokemon ever made, and I’m waiting (not so very) patiently for the new series to air because I can’t get away with subs and prefer the dubbed episodes. If it’s possible I think this is one show I enjoy more now that I did as a kid. XY (the season that just aired) is actually my favourite since the Johto adventures as I got really disillusioned after Brock wen off to become a doctor. There is so much more plot line that I ever noticed as a kid. I’m not even slightly ashamed that I adore this show, and Little Miss is really getting into it too.
Lost
Oh Lost, the first show I got REALLY invested in to the point it started taking over my life. I needed each episode like a drug, and even now I still can watch all 6 seasons in just over 2 weeks. If I decide to binge watch Lost I literally sit from 7pm til 1/2am every night as I get that caught up. And even after all these years there are still more questions I want answering. It’s not a perfect season, but it had everything it needed to make it an addictive season. A bit like Game of Thrones these days, huh?
Yeah, there are more I could have added, like the aforementioned How I Met Your Mother, Gossip Girl, Friends, The Paradise, Flashforward.. I could go on.
