February Half-Term Break Ideas*
Like most parents, I am a big believer in travelling with children. Not only is seeing new places exciting and enriching for them, but holidays are also perfect for family bonding. I love taking time out to take my daughter on vacation, but sadly, money can sometimes be an issue. However, like most parents, I do try to take her away at least once or twice a year.
The key to success when organising the perfect family holiday is booking in advance. This is especially true when it comes to traveling during the school holidays, as the earlier you book, the more affordable it is.
In case you fancy getting organised for the February half-term, I have put together a few family break ideas. Hopefully, these ideas will help you to get your next trip planned out and booked up for an affordable price.
See the Northern Lights in Sweden
You’re probably thinking that on a budget, taking a trip to Sweden isn’t really doable. However, the truth is, if you’re willing to shop around for a good price on tickets and accommodation, a trip to Sweden doesn’t have to break the bank.
The best thing about this type of trip is that for your little ones, it would make such a great memory. Every child dreams of playing in the snow, riding husky sleds, and, of course, seeing the magical Northern Lights. Sweden winter trips might be a little more expensive than a trip to Cornwall, but it’s worth every penny.
Head to Barcelona
If you have always wanted to visit Barcelona in Spain but haven’t been able to afford the high summer prices, the winter is the perfect time to visit. Because it’s out of season, everything from the flights to the accommodation is much cheaper. The only downside, of course, is the cooler temperatures. (You can still get a tan, but it may be a little chilly for a dip in the pool.)
The chances are that while you’re in Barcelona, you’re going to want to see all the sights and attractions. The good news is that not only are entrance prices lower out of season, but you also won’t have to queue for hours. As every mum knows, kids and queuing really don’t mix. In the winter, Camp Nou, Parc Guell, and Casa Batllo can all be explored for cheaper prices.
Go skiing in the French Alps
If you’re a skier, the chances are that you would love to share your passion with your little ones. The price tag that comes with a skiing trip, however, might be putting you off. If that’s the case, don’t let the cost put you off. As, believe it or not, you can plan an amazing skiing trip for your family without breaking the bank.
To make the cost of travel cheaper, opt to ski somewhere in Europe instead of in Canada, like the French Alps. You can also cut the cost of travel by choosing to fly with a budget airline, such as EasyJet. For your accommodation, opt for somewhere that’s self-catered, so that you can keep the cost of food low. Eating out in ski resorts can be expensive, so to keep costs low, cooking yourself is a must. Another way to save money is by staying in a resort that offers free children’s lift passes and discount ski hire. Hiring equipment and buying passes can be pretty pricey, so any savings you can make will cut costs.
Money can often stop families from traveling. However, it doesn’t have to. If you take note of the tips and ideas above, you can make family travel much more affordable.
