A Guide To Family Attractions Around The UK*

With the cost of living on the rise, more families are looking at ways to holiday on a budget. And one of these cost affective ways is to invest in a caravan or a motorhome and self-drive to family attractions. In the UK we’re lucky enough that it’s not too difficult to travel to mainland Europe, but there are also so many fantastic destinations here at home to visit!

Before setting off, ensure you have great motorhome and caravan insurance. It’s different to your regular car cover and it’s so important to have in place before seeing off on your holiday.

I’ve been trawling the country for amazing family attractions that might suit us on a whim, and here’s what I’ve found from the four corners of the UK:

North West

If you’re heading to the North West of England this summer, then you can’t really miss Blackpool. As theme parks go, few can compete with the range of family attractions and things to see and do. Not everything is going to suit the youngest of children, but there is plenty there. The best thing is you can travel there by coach, train or in the car. And Blackpool, being Blackpool, has tons of choice when it comes to accommodation too.

Scotland

Scotland is the home of free family days out. You can wander aimlessly through the gorgeous country parks. Enjoying some fresh air and walking is one of our favourite things to do. Callendar Park is particularly family friendly because you can nose around the old mansion and let the kids run wild in the adventure park.

London

The capital really does have plenty to offer kids of all ages. I’ve found that checking out the What’s On articles finds you the best things that are most age appropriate when it comes to family attractions. Even without finding the special events in the capital, the London Eye and Madame Tussauds provide plenty for the whole family to see. The best thing about being in the city is you’re never short of a good place to eat either!

Wales

Saundersfoot Beach in Wales is one of the best beachy areas you can find. It can cater for any mood because there are several different areas along this part of the coast. There are some great sandy beaches full of other kids to play with, or somewhere quieter where you can laze away an afternoon. Great fun with a bucket and spade for your little one.

South West

If your kids love dinosaurs, then the Jurassic Coast of Dorset could be the place to head to. The Devon border area is particularly interesting for the kids. There are often special events and fossil hunting theme days on. Enjoy a brisk walk along the coast, or head up into the quaint specialist shops for a fun day out.

North East

The North East city of Newcastle offers a great shopping experience. During the summer holidays, you can often find play centres that kids can stay to play while you shop too. Alternatively, why not head to the big toy stores and see what great events they’ve got going on?

It’s not too hard to find a family friendly event at this time of the year. Sometimes it’s fun to stick a pin in the map and check what’s nearby using the internet. Have a great summer!
