Fun Ways To Create More Space Within Your Home*

Changing your home is something we mostly do when we want to either add value or create more space. And focusing on the latter reason here, creating more space doesn’t have to be boring, and you certainly don’t have to use stale styles! That’s what we mean when we say fun here, – creative and a little ‘out there’, and not necessarily a bunch of DIY projects you won’t find a little tiring here and there!

But it is fun to put ideas like these into practice, and to change the amount of space within your home with some cool uses of shelving, seating, and even the outside world. So without further ado, here are some fun ways to make a bit more space within your home that’ll really give your rooms some personality.

Use Hooks and Hangers Everywhere

If you can hang things up and get them off of any surfaces, you’re going to have a lot more room across the floor – simple as! And when you’ve got a busy household with kids in, this is a life saver. Hooks and hangers are easy to apply to walls, cabinets, and even shelves, and pretty much anything can be hung from them, including baskets, bags, and even just toys themselves.

And building up vertically is a great way to make the most of the space in the house in the first place. Not only do you save a lot of money by just ‘stacking’ things, but a lot more furniture can be squeezed in underneath. A new furniture shopping spree is always a little fun!

Spill into the Outdoors

If you’ve got a garden area outside, this is your chance to turn it into another room – well, at least part of it. Because if you decide to set up an awning over the patio, or even go as far as installing a conservatory, you’ll have many more square metres of space to deal with!

And once you’ve got another ‘room’ out there to live in, you can set up Alfresco blinds to keep it insulated, and use the room the whole year round. Whether you need a new dining area off of the kitchen, or you need a games room for both you and the kids to play in, this is a great option to employ.

Separate Rooms with Shelves

If you’ve got an open-plan layout already, why not separate it out again with bookcases and other shelving units, just like you would with walls? Not only is this an inexpensive way to create more space as a whole, but it’s also something you can move around as you please. And let’s not forget about all the extra storage space you’ll get as a result!

Make sure the units you buy and build are floor to ceiling in length. This will help to better the illusion of the space being separate, even though it isn’t really. But for all intents and purposes, you’ve got a more nuanced space to make use of, and can even use the shelving units as faux feature walls for a bit more personality.

Build a Breakfast Nook

A breakfast nook is a great way to make use of the spare space in your kitchen. You can save on trying to put a dining table up, and you can get a little more functionality out of the entire room.

After all, you put the seat in the already lowered and spacious windowsill, and then you add a breakfast bar in front – what could be easier or more cosy? Plus it’s always nice to eat early in the morning when you’re bracketed by the sun behind you, and you can read, draw, and listen to music there too.

Build into the Corners

The corners of the rooms in your home may be going neglected right now. As such, it’s time to fill them up with the items you don’t have another home for! Build your own corner shelf for the bedroom, and then put all your spare items that simply live in a drawer on it. This makes the room more interesting, lets you showcase your hobby items, and it’s just a good way to make use of ‘awkward’ spaces.

If you want to create more space in your home, it isn’t just about decluttering and then preventing mess building up again. It can be fun! You just need some more creative ideas that’ll help you turn your home into a spacious paradise that suits you perfectly.
