5 Places to Visit in Jacksonville, Florida*

I think we all know by now that my heart belongs in Florida and I can’t deny this year has been hard with two cancelled trips. As much as we love visiting Disney, it’s not the only reason we love the sunshine state and today I’m going to be sharing another fab place for your Florida bucket list, Jacksonville. I’ve done my research and I’m sharing 5 great places to visit during your stay.

So here we go, 5 places to visit in Jacksonville, whether you’re local and seeking somewhere new to explore, or just visiting;

James Weldon Johnson Park

One of the most historical public places in Florida, there is so much to see and do. Named after the famous writer and civil rights activist, who was born in Jacksonville, if you like a hive of activity, this is the place for you. Monday through Friday you’ll find a whole host of food trucks, live music and activities, then on the weekend there are markets, live events and performances to be enjoyed!

Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary

If you are into animals, this is the place for you. Set a little outside of Jacksonville main, Catty Shack Ranch pledges

(our mission is) to provide a safe, loving, forever home for endangered big cats, and to educate the public about their plight in the wild and captivity.

Here you’ll be able to see and learn about tigers, lions, cougars, leopards, bobcats, arctic foxes, and coatimundis (I had to look that last one up!) As the place is run by volunteers, it’s not open to the public every day, but the public tours offered sound fantastic! All proceeds go to the animals too which makes it a great cause.

The Beach

I say  “the beach” but there are actually four beaches on the coastline where Jacksonville sits, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Mayport Beach, and Atlantic Beach. Each offers a unique experience and set of activities. All are white sand paradise, and for the most part, uncrowded throughout the year. You can do anything from paddle board and surf, to lay in the sun, or you could even go diving on the beautiful reefs. These beaches would also work as great date spots if you’re dating in Jacksonville. If you’re a Florida native looking to date, I totally recommend a local dating website such as Jacksonville Personals to make a connection.

Park Street in Five Points

I love that in cities in the US there is always that one area that is the heart and soul, for Jacksonville it sounds like it’s Park Street in the Five Points area and I feel like I really need to visit! Park Street “mixes the flavor of old Jacksonville with a bohemian vibe.” And if that doesn’t sound like somewhere you want to visit, then you haven’t lived. If you love vintage, be sure to swing by the Sun-Ray Cinema!

Riverside Avondale Preservation

And finally, into arts and culture? Riverside Avondale Preservation is the place for you. It’s a true treasure in Jacksonville. Home to the Riverside Arts Market, on every Saturday 10-3 and has hundreds of local artists and food vendors. Such a vibrant atmosphere and real community spirit. Don’t be alarmed if you can only visit during the week though, at the Riverside Avondale Preservation you’ll also find lush community gardens and diverse historic architecture.

So whether you’re looking for somewhere to go on a first date, or you’re just visiting, Jacksonville is a gem and well worth your time exploring.
