How to Make Your Home More Dog Friendly*

People who have dogs will easily be able to agree that we love our dogs unconditionally. We would do anything for them to make sure that they stay fit, healthy, and happy. If you’ve never had a dog before, then you might not realise how much a dog can mean to a person, but they basically become part of a person’s family – they are that important. But when it comes to getting a new dog, and more importantly, bringing one home, it’s a good idea to make sure that your home is dog friendly.

You might have spent hours, weeks, months looking at what dog to get. You might have been looking at different articles (such as this one here: https://petvblog.com/types-of-german-shepherds/) to help you figure out what dog would suit you best. But now the time has come, and your new dog will be coming home with you. So, what is it that you need to do to make your home more dog friendly? Keep on reading to find out what you need to do next…

Consider Your Home’s Flooring

When you have dogs running around your house all day, it’s important that you consider what floor your home has. The general rule that you should follower is that the harder the floor, the better. Tiles are normally the best thing that you can get for your home, as they are virtually scratch proof, so this is great for in your kitchen (which is normally the main room that dogs stay in, in people’s homes, although not always).

Tiles are also great as they can provide a cool place for your dog to nap when the weather gets hot. The one thing that you should try to avoid though is carpet. Although this might be comfortable under your feet, it harbours a whole hose of bacteria and hair and is a pain to keep clean. It also doesn’t help if people have allergies, as the hair in the carpet is a major contributor to people who have to deal with allergies.

Forget About Anything White

Although white does look good in a home, you should just avoid it if you have a dog. Any upholstery that is white will no longer be white (or any light colour that is was originally before your dog lay down next to it). The moment your dog comes back from a walk outside, the sooner all you the mud and dirt will just be rubbed up against your furniture.

Of course, if you don’t mind cleaning it then that is fine, but it’s not something that people are happy on doing constantly. If you have white walls as well, then a muddy dog might run up against it, so try and have an area where you can clean your dog (and let your dog dry first), to help make sure that things stay clean. Leather is a good idea for furniture, because it is hardy, and also does not absorb   odour and can be wiped clean easily.

Invest in a Good Vacuum Cleaner

Depending on what breed of dog you have, you might find that your dog sheds a lot more then others. If you do happen to have a shedding breed, then you will need to make sure you groom your dog regularly. Not only that, but you will also have to vacuum around the house at least twice a week. If you don’t vacuum, then your dog’s hair will just be pushed into your carpet and will make it dirty.

You can also help yourself by grooming your dog regularly, as this will help cut down the amount of hair that gets stuck in your carpet, and on your furniture. This will help keep your house clean, and it’s a good idea to make sure you get into the habit of doing this, as it will really help keep your home clean! Although you might have to work at it a little bit, dogs can really help make a house a home! If you are moving to a new house, then here’s how to move to a new house with your pet!
