A Living Room Fit For All The Family*

When it comes to the living room, everyone in the family wants different things. You want to have a room which looks great and can be shared with guests with pride. But, the kids want a room which can be played in. This disharmony can often lead to you giving up on your dreams for this space, letting it succumb to the will of the children. But, it doesn’t have to be this way. Instead, you just need to find some ways to make your living room a little more child-friendly, while maintaining the looks you love. To help you with this, this post will be going through some easy ways to achieve this, without breaking the bank.

Firstly, the floor has to be considered. Spills and other little accidents which occur in this room could ruin the look of your floor for years to come. So, it makes sense to put some thought into this area. Most homes have wooden flooring beneath their carpets. Stripping the fabric layer and restoring this wood can be a great way to make a room look excellent.

You could also look at ways to have a beautiful floor that I’d also practical for parents when it comes to keeping it clean. A great example of this is Engineered Wood Flooring. This type of flooring is an investment that will last for years in your family home but it will also be easy to clean and safe for all to walk on. With that bare wood, you can look into options like second-hand rugs to add some more spice to the room. This will be much cheaper than replacing or cleaning carpets each time an accident happens.

The furniture in your living room is possibly the most at-risk pieces there are. These items are often very large, making them stand out. Along with this, they have large surfaces which make them perfect for your kid’s attempts at masterful artwork. So, it’s easy to see why furniture will often bear the brunt of the chaos which comes with children. To solve this, there are loads of easy to use products out there. With wood, you can buy a simple treatment which makes it very quick to wipe clean the surface of the material. And, won’t cost a fortune, either. Along with this, you could look into replacing your fabrics with leather. A corner sofa will look great in either leather or fabric. But, only leather will be able to stand up to the might of your kids. Using options like these, you can achieve a stunning look in your living room, without sacrificing its lifespan.

Now, it’s time to think about the areas of the home which are unsafe for your children. In most cases, you will look after your kids during playtime, when they’re young. But, as they get a little bit older, times will change, and you will want to start giving them more freedom. It’s at this point that electricals can become an issue. Thankfully, though, the dangerous part of this is cables and sockets. And, these look better once you’ve sorted them out, anyway. Tidying your cables to keep them out of reach can be done with some basic tools. Cable management kits are available everywhere, with some great examples coming from stores like Ikea. With something like this in place, you cables will be hidden and your kids kept safe.

Hopefully, this post will inspire you to start working harder to combine both style and versatility in your living room. Not a lot of people realise just how easy it is to childproof a room like this. And, this is a shame.
