3 Ways to Freshen Up a Room Without Spending a Fortune*

Dare I say it (because last time I did it ended up going cold again) but is it possible that Spring has finally arrived for good this time? The forecast does look promising, a few scattered showers but warm enough for a light jacket. After the winter we’ve had, I’ll take it!

Of course, the down side of this Spring weather is not only do you start noticing the rooms in you house that badly need a make over (my bathroom is CRYING for some help, and my kitchen) but you feel like you want to start cleaning, clearing out and even freshening the place up. In the winter when it’s dark and you have the curtains closed from 5 you don’t really notice what needs doing, but when the sun shining in it shows up everything.

But with people paying off holidays, and saving for the summer holiday, spare cash for decorating is sometimes hard to come by, which is why today I’m sharing 3 ways to freshen up a room without spending a fortune over a whole overhaul. Sometimes a room just needs one or two things changed to make you feel better about it, you don’t have to strip the walls and change the carpets, or even buy a new sofa to freshen the place up, and here is how.

Wall Mural
This is a great one if you’re wanting a feature wall in a room as it’s so much easier than picking a colour and it’s perfect if you have a particular theme to your room. My sitting room for example is travel themed so I could go for Wallsauce maps wallpaper over my fireplace. It brings focus to the room and sticks with my theme which could draw all the rest if your decoration together. These are amazing in places like the lounge, a dining room and even bedrooms and save you thinking about what you want to hang on you walls picture wise.

Hang New Curtains
Okay, stick with me on this one. My mum had different curtains for different seasons when I was growing up, mainly for the lounge and simply by changing the curtains it did the room wonders. In the winter she hung dark curtains that were lined and quite heavy, these kept the heat in the room and made the place feel cosy especially when the Christmas tree was up. In the summer she hung lighter curtains that made the room bigger and brighter. There are different colours associated with different seasons and by changing the curtains you can change the feel of the room. This is especially useful if the room is a blank canvas, say white walls and a wooden or neutral floor. The curtains can be a splash of colour you need.

Change the Decorative Touches
If you’re looking for something that’s a bit more permanent that swapping the curtains every season, why not freshen up the room by selecting some new decorative touches. I’m talking about changing the photos on the walls, some new cushions or cushion covers, fresh flowers etc. Also change the scent of your diffuser or candle. By selecting something that smells fresher and more fragrant (just as you would pick something spicy or warming for winter) it makes the room feel more Spring like. I’ve recently swapped from French Vanilla to Fresh Cotton and it makes the world of difference.

Although decorating can be an expensive process, especially if you want to over haul a whole room, but if you simply want to make your room feel fresh and new for Spring, hopefully these tips can help you to do that.
