5 Things I Enjoy About Winter*
Technically we know that Winter doesn’t officially start until December, and the winter months in the UK are actually December, January and February. However with the current climate that doesn’t fly as I’ve seen snow as late as May up here and right now with the fact we had hail stones last week and it’s absolute freezing when the sun is down, I often feel like Winter has started as early as October. Making right now, mid November, feel like it’s in full swing.
So today I thought I’d share 5 things I love about Winter. Because lets face it, on the whole it’s a pretty grim month. I’m going through an especially rough time at the moment and I don’t think the weather is helping so it’s important to focus on the little things that get me through the day at this time of year.
Christmas
As a parent Christmas is even more magical than it was when you were a kid. And there is so much prep that goes into it. Even though I don’t make Christmas dinner just now as I go to my parents, I do help. And then there is the shopping, the visits to Santa Claus, the letters to Santa Claus, outfit planning.. and lets not forget all the stuff that goes along with school such as plays, parties, dinners. It’s very full on but so much fun and I can’t wait for the distraction! Every Christmas just gets better when you’re a parent.
Festive Hot Drinks
90% I prefer my coffee and tea cold, but there is something about clutching a coffee shop cup between your hands on a cold day where you can see your breath hang in the air. It’s no surprises that everyone gets excited when the festive cups come out, I don’t blame them. Especially when the world is such a mess right now. Not only do I love festive flavours but it’s not winter if I don’t treat myself to a tub of Whittards seasonal hot chocolate.
Heating Coming on in the Morning
My absolute favourite time of day is when the heating comes on in the morning and I know I still have an hour in bed. I can wrap myself up in the quilt, my cat purring away on my feet and the house is quiet. Especially how these days it’s still dark outside. It’s comforting.
Cosy Nights
The opposite of first thing in the morning.. when the heating is on in the evening and the curtains are all drawn I like to light candles and curl up under a blanket with a book. I’m really looking forward to having the Christmas tree lights on as well for that extra glow.
Winter Clothes
I love winter fashion. I don’t know if it’s because I’m not a huge fan of my body and winter colours and styles give me that security or if it’s because I like being wrapped up rather tha having skin on show haha. I like being cosy and I always have cold feet regardless of the weather so boots and brogues feel much better rather than sandels. I like tights, thick cardigans and sweaters over my pretty dresses. I love hats, scarves and mittens. I’m in my element in flannel. As far as fashion is concerned, winter is my time to shine.
