Aquafresh Brush Time App Review*
Little Miss and I rarely butt heads, but one of the things we butt heads over, is brushing her teeth. It’s not that she doesn’t want to, it’s that she wants to stand and chew on the toothbrush for 30 seconds and then claim she’s done. She is so fiercely independant that she never wants me to help and she gets bored of the activity after 30 seconds, not great for her teeth and not a great routine to get into! Thankfully, thanks to the Aquafresh Brush Time app, I think we’ve got it cracked!
You may be familiar with Captain Aquafresh from the tv adverts and he’s the start of the Brush Time app. The friendly superhero that encourages kids to brush is a hit with both girls and boys and along with the really cute Nurdles I just knew it was going to appeal to Little Miss. I downloaded the app from the iTunes app store and had it ready on my phone at bedtime. We sat and watched the introduction which was visual enough to get Little Miss to understand she was supposed to be brushing for two minutes (she recognises the 2 which comes up on the clock face). This introduction gave me a little time to explain to Little Miss what the app was for and how we were going to use it.
After the app has loaded you get the option to “brush now” which takes you straight into the two minutes of Captain Aquafresh dancing with pre-loaded music, or you can “mix it up”. We went through “mix it up” first which gives you the choice of two characters and the chance to unlock more as you brush. Little Miss chose Billy Nurdle. You can then select the scene, this time there are three available with more to unlock as you brush. Little Miss chose the beach. You can then select the music, with some songs provided by Aquafresh or you can go into iTunes which is what Little Miss prefers to do, her favourite is Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off. Finally you need to chose a dance style, there is the Brushtime dance or silly dance the first time you use the app. Of course being a 4 year old Little Miss went with silly and now we brush!
I think the concept is wonderful, giving LM something to watch while she’s brushing but as she can’t read yet the instructions at the top mean nothing unless I catch them to read them out (which sometimes I don’t as I’m brushing my teeth at the same time and can’t read with my mouth filled with foam). As a grown up it does get repetitive and I do find it a bit to loud and colourful when we’re trying to wind down at bedtime, but hey, if it means she brushes more and for longer, I’m down with it getting her a little more excited at bedtime! I definitely think it’ll be slightly more beneficial to kids slightly older than Little Miss who can read and use the app without an adult but it is highly entertaining for kids around 3/4.
The Aquafresh Brushtime App is free to download on iTunes.
