Sing Along Elsa Review*

Last week Santa Claus paid an early visit to Little Miss! Because she’d been so good this year, Santa, Mrs Claus and the elves left a little present under the tree for LM as a special extra. She was so excited to find it was the Sing Along With Elsa doll she’d recently seen on the TV! I was actually sent the doll to review and as I don’t believe in giving LM big presents for no reason, it seemed a good idea to have it come early from Santa Claus. She really has been an angel this year and I do believe in regarding good behavior, however I didn’t want to go back on my “no big toys before Christmas” rule. Her little face light up at the surprise was a complete picture!

So Sing Along With Elsa.. Not the usual type of gift I go for, personally I hate noisy toys as I have a naturally loud child. Plus I live in fear of the toy going off by itself when I’m downstairs on my own. I just don’t need that in my life. But it was one of those toys that the TV advert pulled her in. Although she isn’t massively into Frozen anymore she does still love the music and although she can’t pronounce all the words yet, she does love to sing Let It Go, ultimately making her the target audience for the toy. When I first tried the toy in the sample mode it was loud and I was already regretting it, however you’ll all be thankful to know in standard mode it’s not over poweringly loud which was a complete game changer for me. If I can’t hear the doll while I’m in the kitchen, that’s an instant ten out of ten as far as being a parent is concened!

Starting with the doll herself, as you can see it’s styled as a child much like the toddler dolls that are on the market. At the moment, LM does prefer this and usually I have a problem with it as the ones that aren’t from the Disney Store still have the infamous slit up the dress like the one in the movie however this doll has a dress very much like the one LM owns. It’s very child friendly and even lights up. She looks well made and her face is quite endearing. I have to admit I do like dolls LM can push around in her pram that don’t actually look like babies because they creep me out. So in the box there was the doll of course and the microphone. The microphone does take 2 x AAA batteries and although there is a way to switch the doll off there isn’t any way to switch the microphone off which as annoying because Little Miss has this thing where she needs to randomly press the button even when she isn’t playing with the doll!

To make her work you simply press her crystal brooch on her neck which activates her. She speaks a couple of phrases and then you hold the microphone to her lips to start the song. To hear the whole of Let It Go just hold the microphone to her lips. If you want to duet take the microphone away and the music will continue to play without the lyrics meaning you can sing along. Although for older children this is a great concept, but as LM is only three she still struggles with the lyrics and my only criticism is the fact there is no way to duet with both Elsa and your child singing. I feel this would help LM a lot more if she knew what the words were because at the moment she manages a sentence before she forgets what comes next. However once you move the microphone away she stops singing instantly.

Little Miss loves her though and I don’t find her quite as offensive to look at as some Disney dolls. She seems really well made and I do like the concept aside from the fact there isn’t an option to sing into the microphone with Elsa. Of course now my problem is LM would like a Sing Along with Anna doll so they can sing For The First Time in Forever doll! Trust her.

As a little extra, here is a little video of the toy in action, along with poor Little Miss struggling to keep up. She’s definitely much better at dancing to the song than singing it at the moment!
