Let There Be Light
Decide where the main activities will be held this year and build around the main focus. If it’s the fireplace and the Christmas tree for example then start working out the lighting. This element is the main draw as it establishes the feel of the space. When family and guests start arriving, the room will have a festive and convivial atmosphere created not only by the warmth of the roaring hearth (if you don’t have one don’t worry!) but also by the subtle lighting.

Wowing Steps
As you make your way up or down the steps, you can transform the feel by adding a garland in between the banisters with dotted lights throughout. The Wow factor will be mesmerising! Because the lighting may be minimal it is also worthwhile to include wall or ceiling lights that are non-intrusive like the Axo Light. There are a variety of styles suitable for this season or all year round.

White Lights
You may decide that you prefer a more subtle look: by using a string of white fairy lights, you can surround the mirrors or pictures frames with them. Scrunch up another string of white lights and place them in a vase. This look is so in vogue and works instantly.

Say it with Giant Words
Words say it all: using any festive word like Noël or Joy, you can create on a table or shelf in the hallway, a decorative ensemble by assembling huge letters and wrapping fairy lights around them to invite everyone in.

Special Displays
If you have a unique exhibit such as a Nativity piece, accentuate the area with spot lights that can be discreetly positioned on the walls or ceilings. They are ideal to highlight a corner with displays and can be adjusted so that they don’t interfere with the main lighting in the room. Choose from a large selection through numerous reputable outlets like Lampcommerce.

Narnia Within
Now that the lights spell the mood, bring in some natural touches with your Christmas tree: if you have limited space, you can just as easily have miniature ones dotted around your home in different sizes. It will feel like strolling through an enchanted forest. There are white glittering trees or more traditional green ones to select. With pine cones in baskets or hanging from strings in the kitchen, you can develop a theme that will immediately enhance the mood and spirit.

Looking In
When people pass your home they will be awed by your breath-taking window tableau of garlands, white cluster lights and candles. Add a decorative stag for a more modern statement or use white fairy lights for a timeless attraction.
