Summer Travel Planning, Part 3 – Packing The Wash & Make Up Bags

With 8 days to go, we’re up to the packing! I leave very early next Tuesday morning which gives me just over a week to make sure I have everything. For the past month things have just been thrown into the open suitcase onto my bedroom floor, but last night I sat down with my lists and filled up my toiletry and make up bags, making them ready to blog about today. It will be a few more days yet before I put my clothes in the case to avoid creases but with everything thrown in last night and a quick weigh, I am well under my limit. Success! Like with Paris, I’ll be doing a few posts on what I’m taking with me as I really enjoy having a nosy at other peoples posts like this! I really hope it’s not too similar to my Paris packing post!
Firstly, my make up bag.

Firstly, my make up bag is Disney Rapunzel (naturally) it’s technically a pencil case I bought off eBay for £3.99 before my Disneyland trip. I love it and it’s the perfect size for trips away. I also have an old Ecotools bag that fits all my vital brushes in, two Real Techniques, the contour one and my strippling brush, two shadow brushes that are just budget ones and I talk in more detail about them here, and a Sigma eyeliner brush I received in my Nottingham Blogger Meet goody bag. Other “tools” I’m taking are a pair of tweezers I think I received in a Christmas cracker, they do the job though, a pack of bobbi pins that were £1 from Primark and my mum bought some of those Invisibobbles and I’ve borrowed them for my trip! And of course a hand mirror I received for my birthday from the lovely Hayley. I’ve been saving up my Boots points since Christmas so I spent the lot of them on toiletries for my holidays. One of the things I picked up is Soap & Glory’s version of Benefit’s Dream Screen, which I did have my eye on but couldn’t justify the £25 price tag. Soap & Glory’s Sunshield Superfluid is £10 cheaper, but when I bought it was on offer for £9.95 making it a hell of a lot cheaper. It’s SPF 50+, helps prevent aging and mattifies (which is the most important thing when I’m sweating in the 30 degree heat!). I’ve tried it a couple of times and so far, I’m impressed. To go over the top I’m taking The Porefessional I received in last months Birchbox to make sure I have a flawless complexion as I’m taking no foundation or BB cream! Blush wise I’m taking my creamy NARS Penny Lane, a No7 Blush called Honey that I use as a bronzer for contouring which I bought using the £5 off voucher they had on recently and used £3 of points. A sample size of Rouge Bunny Rouge Highlighting Liquid in Sea of Tranquility* (cannot recommend the brand enough!) that works a bit like Benefit’s High Beam and of course my holy grail of concealers (to hide the jet lag) MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer that I picked up from the Duty Free MAC counter before flying to Disneyland Paris. I wouldn’t go anywhere without my Maybelline Brow Drama, another point purchase as I had finished my last one, it’s the perfect shade for filling out my brows. Moving onto eyes I’m taking my Eyeko Skinny Liner that I received for Christmas and haven’t got around to using yet and a Rimmel Scandaleyes in Nude to make sure I look wide eyed in all my photos. Finally for lips, my Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Ozone to prevent my lip colour bleeding in the sun and a bottle of Lipcote* that I received in my #lincsblogmeet goody bag. The colours I’ve finally limited down to are a Rimmel Apocalips in Aurora, my Yves Rocher Grand Rouge Lipstick and a sheer MAC lipstick in Hug Me, which probably won’t survive the trip as it’s already melting. Never mind!

Next up, my toiletries bag. The bag itself is old, but the perfect size for trips away. It came with a Toni & Guy Christmas gift set. Last summer I ended up getting burnt really badly due to some out of date sunscreen so ever since then I buy new bottles regularly. The current temperature for next week in DC & NY is about 28-31 degrees which is into the 80s so I’ve bought SPF 50 for the time in DC and SPF 30 for while in New York, I’ve also bought some after sun. All three are from Hawaiian Tropic, the SPF 30 and aftersun came from Superdrug, they were half price and I used my points to buy the after sun. I hunted all over for the SPF 50 but the only place I could get it was on Feel Unique, thankfully I had a £5 off code making it around the £8 mark. Hawaiian Tropic suncream smells AMAZING! I know I’ll be using that brand for years to come. Next up is my Naked 3 palette, this should have really went in my make up bag but it doesn’t fit. For my face I’m taking SHOCK HORROR face wipes, these will be used to remove my make up from my eyes only as it’s easier than taking my micellar water & a ton of face pads. My Balance Me Cleanse and Smooth Face Balm that I received in a magazine last month, I’m so impressed with Balance Me at the moment that I’m looking forward to using it. A sample sized La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+] to keep any break outs at bay, I received this in my Boots talk goody bag from #lincsblogmeet. Obviously deodorant, razor, tooth brush and tooth paste. A stretchy band to keep my hair off my face, a hair bow from Crown & Glory and various medical supplies. Finally to keep my hair in ship shape I’m taking some miniatures from Paul Mitchell’s new Sun range, the After Sun Hydrating Shampoo*, the Sunshield Conditioning Spray* and the After Sun Replenishing Mask* I really can’t wait to try them. Also my Bumble & Bumble Thickening Hairspray to keep my pesky fringe in check and a mini bottle of John Frieda’s Frizz Ease Serum to battle the humidity frizz, it was on offer for £2.66 in Superdrug and I was able to use the last of my points on it.

Now you must be wondering where a lot of my products are such as face powder, mascara, moisturiser, lip balm etc.. well that’s because they’re all going in my hand luggage which is a whole other post coming over the next week!

What are your must take beauty essentials for when you go on holiday?
