#57 Let’s go to the movies, let’s go see the stars!
In honor of the BAFTAs this evening, I thought I’d share the list of movies I am hoping to see at some point in 2013. I’m sat with a top knot in my hair and pjs on, gorging on nutella on toast (well my one slice treat) wishing I was dolled up to the nines sat in the audience, but since I’m not, I feel like writing about movies and of course maybe I could come back to the list at the end of the year and see how many I did manage to see be it on DVD or if i’m lucky in the cinema.
I’m going to the cinema for the second time this year on Tuesday to FINALLY see Les Miserables with the lovely Kirsty from Indigo Buttons. I’m super excited as it was one on my list. I’ve seen the musical and although it is SO depressing, my life has come to the point that I need to spend a few hours crying in the dark. Plus, the cast is fantastic, Anne Hathaway, well I’d watch anything with her in, she is amazing (and she just won the best supporting actress BAFTA, woo!)
I’m picking one movie each month to write about then listing any others I would “quite” like to see but they’re not cinema contenders. Since I have Little Miss and my local cinema only shows like one film a month I don’t have the time or money to be at the cinema every week, sadly, as I used to love to go! Also a note, I’m starting from February since January has passed. Some months there isn’t anything I’d pay to go see at the cinema.. YET, I know there are a few movies that are yet to have a release date so this could change!
So without further ado (a line so commonly use in these award shows!) here are the movies I’m excited for in 2013!
Disclaimer. Please don’t judge me by my movie tastes, I cannot for the life of me abide horror movies or anything with excess blood.. I don’t sleep for weeks. Just ask my parents who recently had me watch Prometheus and found me downstairs at 3am with all the lights on watching Disney channel! So yes, expect a hell of a lot of Disney.
February
Wreck-It Ralph. If it’s Disney, I’m going to see it and I’m going to have it on DVD. It’s a well known fact I am a bit Disney mad and I always have been, probably so much that it’s had a detrimental affect on my sanity. ANYWAY, I’ve seen the trailer so many times on Disney Jr that I feel the need to see it more and more! Luckily it’s one of the very few films that IS showing at my local rubbish cinema. I think my sister and I are going to see it then.
It’s out on 8th February, you can check it out here.
March
Oz: The Great and Powerful. Well, for starters Mila Kunis & James Franco, that basically sells it to me. Add to the fact again it’s Disney and it’s related to The Wizard of Oz.. that makes me basically lining up for tickets. I have loved The Wizard of Oz since I was a child and I first read it/saw it. I am excited to see this next adaptation. I even bought the Oz pallet by Urban Decay and you can read the review here.
Released on the 8th March (4 days before my birthday!), and you can read about it here.
May
Iron Man 3. If you don’t like Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, in my opinion there is something wrong with you. He’s drop dead gorgeous, full of sass and just awesome. Even though there is about four films I want to see come May, if I can only go to the cinema to see one, this is one I want to see. I could never turn down the opportunity to watch more adventures of Tony Stark. And well, if I could be any character from comic book-dom it would be Pepper Potts (closely followed by Mary-Jane Watson).
It’s released on 3rd May, and you can read about it here.
In May I also wouldn’t say no to seeing The Great Gatsby (10th) the book is one of my favourites, Star Trek: Into Darkness (17th) the first one surpassed all expectations & The Hangover: Part 3 (24th) simply because I HAVE to know what happens.
June
Monsters University. Okay, so another Disney movie. What can I say, I sold my soul to the Disney corporation the minute I was born. Monsters Inc is actually one of my favourite Disney/Pixar collaborations so I was pretty excited to hear they were making a prequel and I’m looking forward to see where they take this. I love John Goodman’s voice too.
It’s released on 21st June and you can read all the currently released information here.
In June I’d also like to see Kick Ass 2 (28th), I loved the first one and it’s bizarre comic book style.
Now we fast forward to OCTOBER…
October
The Worlds End. So I have a secret soft spot for Pegg, Wright and Frost movies, I love Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz so I was pleased to hear about a new movie in the works. Released this October is The Worlds End reuniting Simon and Nick in another sci-fi/real life mash up. I love their British/geek humour and I’m hoping that their new movie will life up to the previous two.
It’s released on 25th October and is available for you to read about here.
November
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Well this was basically a no brainer. If you haven’t read The Hunger Games trilogy, why the hell not? The film is pretty damn awesome too hence why I’m SO looking forward to November to see the second installment. I have to admit this book was my favourite so I hope they do it justice! I love Jennifer Lawrence as an actress, she is amazing and her appearances at the award ceremonies this season have been awesome, she has such a good sense of humour.
It’s released on the 22nd November (WHYYYYYY DO I HAVE TO WAIT SO LONG??), and you can find all information about it here.
Also in November there is the second Thor film, The Dark Worlds (8th) looks like the two Hemsworth brothers are to do battle for screen time that month! I love them both.
December
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. I know The Hobbit has had mixed reviews but although it wasn’t a patch on the book, I did enjoy it and I am very much so looking forward to the second and third installments. I love anything related to Tolkien’s world and have done since I was a child. The Hobbit was one of my favourite books from childhood. And also Aiden Turner, he made one handsome dwarf!
It’ll be released on the 13 December and you can keep a look out for a poster here.
In December there is also going to be the long awaited sequel to Anchorman, The Legend Continues on 20th. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it appeals to my random sense of humor.

Is there anything else you’d recommend me trying to see? What are you most looking forward to this year movie wise?

Your list is so similar to mine! And I could have written that disclaimer myself – not a horror fan either! I went to see Les Mis for the second time today, it is absolutely incredible π I’m so gutted Hugh Jackman didn’t get the BAFTA π But then I haven’t seen Lincoln so I can’t really judge I suppose. And I cannot wait for Oz the Great and Powerful or Catching Fire – such an amazing book, it ties with the first book for me in terms of my favourite of the series!

Well since I’ll be coming down baby free for the next few visits at least we can always make it a point to go to the cinema! I refuse to have a year like last year where I saw THREE movies only!
