Tips for Improving Your Cosplay Game*

Cosplay is all about having fun and allowing yourself to take your love for a character to another level. It is also a great way to take a break from yourself and pretend to be someone else. While the amount of enthusiasm you bring to the role is certainly what counts, what you look like matters as well. In addition, for people to take your character seriously, you really are going to have to look the part. When you are adopting say the persona of a Disney princess, an important part of many people’s childhoods, you’d better dress to impress. If you are having some trouble figuring out how to make your outfit look more authentic, here is some help;

Costume Fitting
Sometimes, it is as simple as making sure that the costume fits perfectly. This adds a sense of authenticity. After all, have you ever seen Aurora or Elsa in an ill-fitting costume? Even most of Cinderella’s rags fitted her to a tee. In addition to looking a lot better, it also makes it look like the outfit was created just for you.

Perfect the Make Up
The next thing that you need to pay attention to is the makeup. While most people make a lot of effort with their costume, they tend to focus less on their makeup. However, the whole point is to look as close to the original character as possible. For instance, it is a good idea to note the winged eyeliner of Jasmine or the purplish eyeshadow that Elsa wears. Here is some great tips to pulling off the perfect Disney princess look.

Get a Perfect Wig Match
Another thing that you should consider is your wig. If you want to look your very best it’s worth remembering wigs can be as costly as the dress, especially lace front wigs as they look the best. Particularly with Disney princesses, hair plays a big role in their appearance. If you tend to purchase wigs off the rack, however, they usually will not look much like how you want them to. Now, the most common strategy is to grab a pair of scissors and hack away at the faux hair yourself. That, however, is about as recommended as giving yourself a haircut. You can certainly expect similar results. Instead, take your wig to a stylist or hairdresser. They will be able to sort it out for you. Remember to take pictures to show them what you mean.

Accessories Accessories Accessories
Finally, it is all about those accessories. Admittedly, getting the shoes right is probably one of the hardest aspects of cosplay. While you can manage to put a dress or two together, making shoes is a whole other story. One of the things you can do is to find a pair that is as close to real deal as possible and modify it from there. Sometimes all you might need is a can of spray paint and some glitter.
