3 Things To Think About Before Starting Your Garden Transformation*

While it might not currently feel it, as far as the calendar and the daffodils are concerned, Spring is on it’s way. It’s almost Mother’s Day which always feels like a Spring Holiday and the clocks are changing, again a sign of Spring. Because of this, many of us are looking to tackling our gardens and starting to work on getting them summer ready.

Here in the UK we endured a lot of terrible storms, specifically strong winds like we haven’t seen in decades. Myself, like many around the country, have taken some substantial damage to their garden. I lost all my fences, front and back, plus some little fencing withing the garden. I lost my blue recycling bin in Storm Arwen (it was empty and flew right over the wall) and there is slate and destroyed bushes everywhere. I can see similar gardens all over town and I know we’re just all waiting for the weather to finally improve before making a start.

Garden make overs don’t come cheap, and many people often leave their gardens due to the cost and not really feeling sure how to go about fixing the place up. But if during the summer months you spend a lot of time in the garden, maybe gardening is your hobby, or you have young children who need to get out for fresh air.. or perhaps you just like entertaining and consider yourself a master of the grill? Whatever your reason for making your garden a key aspect of you home, here are a few things to think about before starting your garden transformation this year;

How Will You Clear It Out?

The thing with doing your garden is, unless you have a garage or a large shed, there isn’t anywhere really somewhere to store things while you work on it? Which is why you should really consider a skip hire if it’s going to be a big project. Skip hire is very well priced these days and is no longer just for commercial use, a lot of people use small skips for personal use during times when they’re working on home and garden renovations. This way as you clear out bags of garden debris, you have somewhere to put it and it will also be removed from your premises for you, ticking something else off your list.

Do You Need Planning Permission?

An important thing to figure out before you do anything, is work out if you need planning permission from the council to make your garden renovations. There are some gray areas when it comes to things such as, cutting down trees and even building decking, so it’s always better to check just to be safe. There would be nothing worse than doing all that work, paying out all that expense to find that you have to remove it because it doesn’t meet regulations set by your local council. And yes, I know people this has happened to!

Who Will Be Doing The Work?

A lot of people will be looking at some big work for their gardens this year for everything from removing damaged trees to replacing fence so it’s important to consider from the beginning who will be doing this and working that into your budget. The pros to having someone professional work on your garden are, they know what they’re doing when it comes to things like planning permission, disposing of garden waste but the con is it can be quite expensive, especially if you’re handy or have a green thumb yourself.

Once you have considered these points, you can make a start and your garden will be summer ready in no time at all!
