5 UK Snacks to Send Your Friends Abroad*
There is no denying that it’s been a long eighteen months, and for some people it’s been made even longer by the fact they have been unable to see friends and family due to travel restrictions. In fact, in some cases, it’s even on going. We haven’t seen our friends Stateside since October/November 2019, and the end isn’t in sight yet, in fact I have no idea when I’ll see them again. We’ve even given up talking about it because it always leads to heartbreak. I know I’m not alone in this, a lot of people can’t or don’t feel safe to travel and the hardest part is knowing you’re losing this valuable time to be together, but with a global pandemic, what can you do?
Well here is something that might ease things; sending care packages.
I don’t know about you, but getting mail is something I enjoy, and I enjoy it even more when it’s not something I bought myself. During the height of lockdown I did a lot of Amazon wishlist exchanges, sometimes even with strangers to boost them during such a tough time, but now I can get out and about it’s a great time to put together a really good care package for those I love, filled with treats and snacks you can only get in the UK.
Here are 5 of my favourites;
Dairy Milk Chocolate
This one is specifically for friends Stateside, because we all know our Dairy Milk is far superior. For some reason, the US main chocolate, Hersheys, does not taste as good as what we get over here, which is why I always try to gift it to our friends. Especially now we get so many different flavours. And lets not forget those little packs of joy, which are technically share bags but we eat them all ourselves. Hey, a box of Dairy Milk would probably go a long way.
Jaffa Cakes
Another one of my favourites to send are Jaffa Cakes. They take my back to my childhood of when it would be a treat to get the little orange packs with 5 (or 6 if you were lucky) mini jaffas inside. And if you send them to friends abroad you could always start the great are Jaffa Cakes biscuit or cake debate with them!
Ribena
When my cousins first moved to the US my Aunt and Uncle had great difficulty getting the only thing one of them would drink, Ribena. So my Nanny used to have to send a few bottles over every now and then until he got used to the taste of what the US had to offer (uhh hello, ice tea?) If you’re not too worried about weight, pop in a bottle for your recipients to try!
Quavers
Who knew that the packed lunch staple (at least in our house) Quavers aren’t available all over the world? Well now you know! I find the Aldi version taste even better than the named brand but you could make the choice on which to send. Just make sure they’re well packaged so they don’t burst all over your parcel, or even worse, get crushed! Hula Hoops are another one, so if you’re friends and family are about savoury snacks, pop them in.
Love Hearts (or anything Swizzels Matlow)
Our cheap and cheerful candy that takes you back to the days of party bags. Well they’re a UK thing. Parma Violets, Drumsticks and Love Hearts. They’re cute and tell your friends you care, if they get good ones anyway!
There you go, signed, sealed and delivered. Maybe if you’re lucky they’ll send you in return!
