3 Types of UK Holidays You Should Take In the Next Year*
As I sit and write this, it’s cold and wet and I’ve got my hands wrapped around a warm cup of coffee for the first time in months (I’m an iced coffee sort of gal). My mind is set firmly on planning some getaways so I don’t have to spend every school holiday trying to make some fun for my kid, when the weather is so hit and miss. That’s the thing about holidays though, isn’t it? Even if the weather is rubbish, you’re always just happy to not be at home and you’ll make the best of it. When you’re at home, you just want to hide under a blanket and veg.
With COVID restrictions lifting, it’s time to get out and have fun while staying firmly on UK soil. Yes, some brave souls chance getting out of the country for some real sun, but for a lot of us, that’s just not a risk (or expense) we’re willing to take. If like me, you’re used to jetting off abroad, it might feel a little difficult to figure out just what exactly is on offer. Especially when you need to factor in the inevitable rain!
So here are 3 types of UK holidays you should take in the next year to get you started;
A Beach Holiday
No, I’m not talking about crystal waters and white sands, I’m talking about a good ol’ British seaside holiday. Being someone who has grown up in a seaside town, this isn’t ever top of my list, but I have done Blackpool, Skegness and Scarborough in the past. And while it isn’t top of my personal list, I LOVE talking to people who come to this seaside town and see how happy being here makes them. I definitely take the beach for granted, the prom, the arcade, all the ice cream.. this is just our every day life, but I know it’s the kind of holiday that will make the kids happy.
A Theatre Break
And on the other end of the scale, because we live the seaside life every day, LM and I are taking a theatre city break at the end of the summer! We’re off to the opening night of Frozen and I also scored tickets for Cinderella. If you’re wary, check which theatres are asking for COVID passes (proof of vaccination or a negative test) as this could ease your worries and allow you to enjoy the night. We’re masking up and avoiding the tube during rush hour but we’re excited.
A Cottage Core Stay
Aside from “Pandemic”, “Cottage Core” has to be the word (or phrase) or 2020/2021. That knit wear, field of flowers, sipping tea, cozy feel you get while listening to Taylor Swift is a state of mind more than anything. But taking a trip to the countryside could really emphasise it. Look into StayCotswold to make a booking, and escape to this beautiful area of England for a more cozy, relaxed get away.
Once you decide where you’re going and the purpose for the trip, you can look into what activities you can do while there. We’re lucky to be in the UK where we have history on our side with so many amazing places to explore, this is the perfect time to see more of where we live.
