Date Ideas for Nerdy Couples*

I remember growing up being that nerdy girl and it always seemed like such a bad thing. People would comment on the things I like as being nerdy, the way I dressed or even how working hard in school and joining all the clubs was such a nerdy way to be. Now as an adult in her thirties, I know being nerdy is actually pretty awesome. Over the years I’ve connected to so many other nerds and we celebrate our interests and quirks, and I definitely feel most confident being surrounded by like minded people. This is probably why when it comes to dating, I’m often drawn to men that fall into that nerdy category. The ones that scroll through Wikipedia for hours, can talk about movie franchises I love, have some unusual or interesting hobby and more often or not, they enjoy their gaming. And who knew there was a whole niche of gamers dates out there to help me connect with people of a similar mindset.

So here are a few of my favourite date ideas for fellow nerds out there;

Online Gaming

This is one of the ultimate dates for gamers. Pretty much every game console has an online gaming option meaning you can play with your friends, or your date online without leaving your home. This is of course even more important given the current pandemic. While the world is finally starting to turn again, some people just aren’t ready to return to society and that’s okay. So finding dates that work and adhere to restrictions can be difficult. But here we go! Arrange a time and a place, and log in to work together or against each other. A lot of games even offer voice so it’ll feel even more like you’re in the same room!

Board Game Night

A board game night is another date idea that’s great for adhering to the current COVID restrictions (and it’ll work even better when the rule of 6 includes indoors next month). Not only that, but this can be a group date. Group dates are great if you’re either, especially nervous about meeting someone new on your own, or you’re at that point where you feel comfortable enough to introduce your new beau to your friends. It can be fun and a good laugh, and lets face it, we’re all desperate for some company after the last year we’ve had!

Attend a Trivia Night

I love trivia and I love trivia more when i’m up against someone I know. I get super competitive and more often than not, they’re competitive too. As long as you both agree you’re there for a laugh it can be a really fun date. You can of course choose to play on a team together or go against each other, loser buys the drinks? During COVID a lot of places were hosting Zoom trivia if you’re not quite ready to return to the pub, or you could download a trivia Jackbox game that you can easily do from your phone.
