3 Ways To Style a T-Shirt*

In my opinion, fashion is a very personal thing and every single person has their own sense of it. While we have the big wigs telling us what is fashionable and what isn’t every Spring and Autumn, ultimately you’re the the only person who truly knows what they like and what they dislike wearing and really, it’s not anyone else’s business what you wear.

Saying that though, there was item of clothing I truly believe every single person owns at least few of, and that’s of course, the humble t-shirts.

According to some research, the origins of the t-shirt date back to the late 19th Century when laborers would cut their jumpsuits in half to keep cool in the warmer months. However, the first manufactured t-shirt was invented between the Mexican-American War in 1898, and 1913 when the U.S. Navy began issuing them as standard undershirts. And the first person to use the term t-shirt in a novel was F.Scott Fitzgerald (writer of The Great Gatsby) in This Side of Paradise.

Of course there are many ways to style a t-shirt, no matter your age or how you identify and today I wanted to share with you three of my personal favourites!

Jeans and Tee Combo

From the days of James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, the t-shirt and jeans combo has always looked effortlessly good on a guy, and I have to admit I’m a huge fan. It works best with a plain t-shirt and slightly more on the fitted side but it really is a simple look that pretty much anyone can pull off. I might like it best on a guy, but hey, I think it looks good on anyone, and let’s face it, it’s the epitome of comfort.

Tucked Into a High Waisted Skirt

Hi, this is me! I love graphic t-shirts tucked into a high waist skirts! This is why I have so many t-shirts and skirts as it’s definitely my go to look especially while on holiday. I like the t-shirt to be a little baggier but then the skirt synches everything in at the waist and looks good. I love that you can get cool graphic shirts with slogans or to represent a fandom you’re part of. I have Disney shirts coming out of my ears but I really do love them all! And you can get such cute high waist skirts!

Under a Flannel Shirt

This one really is for anyone, kids included.. the aged old t-shirt under a flannel shirt and that in itself can be versatile. You can have the shirt buttoned up, you can have it open, you can have it tied at the bottom or you can have the shirt tied around you waist. It all looks good and it all screams comfort for me. The t-shirt can be plain or printed, it’s a great look for any season.

Remember, fashion is fluid and you should wear what you’re most comfortable in. But lets face it, no one can go wrong with a t-shirt and there really is something for everyone!
