What’s Hot in Home Furnishings from Ironmongery Experts this Autumn*

Thinking of redecorating your home this autumn but are not sure what to change around the house? The answer is… door handles! Have you never thought of door handles as a décor piece? Continue reading to understand the importance of this type of door furniture in interior design and to find out what are the trendiest door handles at the moment!

At Ironmongery Experts, we are a family-run business which specialises in architectural ironmongery, such as door handles, door knockers, door stops and more. Our business was established in 1992, and in that time, we have gained a great amount of knowledge about all types of ironmongery trends and what’s popular this year.

Why door handles?
For many people door handles are simply a functional element of their homes, which is often overlooked, however, as interior designer Young Huh puts it, small items like doorknobs, drawer pulls and cabinet-door handles are “the jewelry” that can add style and sparkle to any space.

She adds that “just as the right necklace can turn a simple dress into a fashion statement, a striking new set of knobs on an old cabinet, or vintage crystal doorknobs can bring a huge dose of style to your home with minimal expense.”

What’s trendy?
Black is the new black definitely. We’ve seen an increase of black door handles over the years and if you haven’t jumped into this trend, maybe it’s the right time to do so. This colour (or the absence of all colour) is classic, elegant, sleek and bold at the same time plus, it complements everything – you might have simple white interiors or more colourful interiors, black will go well with either.

To mix or not to mix?
Traditionally, it would be a sin to mix gold and silver metals around the house, it would be like mixing water and oil – it simply wouldn’t work. Now, mixing metals is fashionable and a great way to show off your style.

Metals are either cool, neutral or warm based on their undertones. Cool metals include stainless steel, chrome, pewter and nickel, whilst warm metals include rose gold, copper and brass. In between these two tones there are neutral metals, including iron metals and black metals. These neutral metal tones can be mixed with both warm and cool metals, being perfect to highlight them.
