Planning a Weekend at Liverpool One*

I have to admit, I’m one of these people who prefers to leave the country to explore than seeing what is on my own doorstep. Because of this, I haven’t even visited a small proportion of the fantastic towns and cities the United Kingdom has to offer. With it being the start of a New Year, I resolved that I would make more of a concious effort to see more of my own country and from social media it appears I’m not the only one. Which is why I’m putting together this small guide for booking a weekend to Liverpool.

I’m sure I don’t need to highlight Liverpool as city to all us Brits, the Scouse accent is almost legendary, but for anyone outside the UK; Liverpool is a city in the North West of England, it’s known as the home of the popular band The Beatles and two premier league football teams, Liverpool United and Everton. It has a metropolitan buzz, historical significance as a port town and enough culture and entertainment to keep you busy for a weekend visit.

At the heart of it all is Liverpool ONE, a one stop destination for events, shopping, food and drink. Liverpool ONE is located right on the iconic waterfront making it easy to get to and picturesque to enjoy. There is something for everyone;

Food Lover?
At Liverpool ONE there is over 35 bars and restaurants to choose from depending on what you fancy. Mexican? Why not try Barburrito? What something all the family will enjoy, how about Ed’s Easy Diner (the cheese fries are amazing)! You won’t be stuck for choice.

Family Time?
Visiting with the family? Liverpool One also hosts an Odeon Cinema where you can stop to see all the latest releases. Before you arrive be sure to check social media and the website for any in store events. Places like Pizza Express and the Lego Store often hold events for children especially during the school holidays.

Shop til you Drop
In Liverpool ONE you’ll find over 170 stores from high street to designer fashion, toy stores, tech stores and even a Disney Store (my personal favourite).

There really is something for everyone here, but just in case you want to explore further afield, here are some other things to look out for in Liverpool.

What Else to See
If you’re into music be sure to check out The Beatles Story. A museum dedicated to the rise of on of Britain’s biggest music groups that got their start in Liverpool. Or if you’d like something a bit more diverse you could check out the British Music Experience which looks at some of the countries biggest stars such as David Bowie, Adele and Oasis.

A lot of people visit Liverpool because they follow the football, and if that’s you, be sure to book yourself in for a stadium tour at Ainfield. Liverpool is also home to Aintree Race Course which is of course where the Grand National is run every year.

If this a family weekend away, as so many of mine are, be sure to check out Mattel Play at the Royal Albert Dock. It’s a playground with three themed areas featuring popular cartoon characters. Or if you want something a bit more cultural that can be enjoyed by all why not visit the World Museum which has five floors of exhibitions from mummies to a planetarium. And if the weather happens to be nice, why not book yourself on a Duck Tour?

There is so much to see and do in Liverpool, after doing my research I really don’t think one weekend is enough, and I can’t even sample the night life!

What’s your favourite thing to do in Liverpool?
