Lifestyle Content // How To Choose The Correct Bedding For Your Comfort*
It is sadly too often that people choose not to put in a lot of effort when they are purchasing their bedding sets. The bed is the greatest source of rest we will ever have in our lives, and the quality of our sleep (which determines our energy, moods and health) is heavily dependent on it. If there are just a few things on life we should splurge on, our bedding and doona quilts should be among them. This decision will deeply reflect into so many aspects of our lives.
In an increasingly busy world, sleep is even more valuable than it was before, and it’s incredibly important that our sleep quality is the highest it can be. Here are some things to consider when buying your mattresses, pillows and sheets.
Fabrics and Texture
Make sure to look at the thread counts of any sheets that you buy. The higher the thread count, the more comfortable and durable the material would be. Of course, the price also rises when the thread count does, so make sure to get a product in the highest possible thread count and price you can manage. It’s a worthwhile investment. Also, having plain white or plain color bedding is definitely a little boring, so make sure to pick textured fabrics. Popular but tasteful touches can be textures like ruching, patterned wrinkles and for someone with a more feminine taste- lace.
Back Support
Your mattress should be able to accommodate any sleeping position you take in the evening without making you uncomfortable or straining any of your muscles. Choose a reliable mattress with enough spring support or even better, memory foam that contours to the shape of your body. Having proper support for your back will not only lessen the occurrences of back pain but discourage bad posture as well.
Protection
If you do get a mattress, then make sure that you also get a protective layer for it, such as a topper or a cover. This prolongs the mattress’ life and the duration between washes and cleansing. If you live in a colder area or an area with bitter winters, you may want to opt for a fleece or faux fur mattress cover to better preserve warmth when you sleep.
Extra Features
Bedding products are now so much more different than to what they used to be decades ago. Many pillows, doonas, quilts and mattresses now have special features such as dust mite resistance, bacteria minimisation and warmth retention. Check the packaging and research the products you want to buy and make sure that they have some of these features for added peace of mind.
Sizing
This can be a bit of common sense, but make sure to check the actual measurements of all your bedding products so that they match and fit each other properly. Some brands, especially imported ones have slight variations in sizing measurements. Make sure that the numbers match nearly to an exact cm (or inch) so that there will be no awkward fittings when you put your bed together.
It is hard to find someone who regretted spending plenty of money on their bedding (save for very ugly but pricey sheets). Your money worries about it will disappear the moment you lay down on your perfect bed and good sleep comes quickly.
